thanks
been a while. as you may know, i was in vancouver shooting things we lost in the fire and then to nyc to finish up support for trust the man and now back in la to resume family life and normal life for the kids. just a few (last?) words here---it's always a disappointment when a movie doesn't set the world on fire, but in truth, not many do, so the expectation is unrealistic. of course, that doesn't stop you from having it. that said, the movie is out there, and will find its life and its audience, over time; if not now, then later, and if not later, then never, but it remains with me as a damn good smart funny film and a wonderful time spent with the folks on set and the lovely and talented bart f. and all that. the rest, unlike hamlet, is noise. i read some of your responses and was moved by the entry about Pam and clicked and saw the picture from the triathalon and yes for sure i do remember her---she was in some ways a fixture at public events. now to be honest, when someone shows up with that regularity, it can be a little unsettling---we don't know the depths of other peolepe's hearts or their true intentions and the mind can easily feel paranoid, so to me, she was always "oh there's that woman who's always at these things i hope she doesn't mean harm". to read that she has died and to hear your praise of her and your sadness, i must say humanizes her. for me. and is humbling and sad. and i know that it is too late. but thank you for doing that. best wishes to all of you. david

What a sweet gesture towards our beloved Pam. She was indeed a big supporter of yours and it saddens me we almost met her in person, but in the end didn't. But I'm sure that somehow, she'll be reading your post and smile.
Thank you.

Thank you for acknowledging our Pam - she was one of the great people and will remain in our hearts.

It's nice of you to comment about Pam. She really was a sweet and funny fixture in the fandom and will be sorely missed at The Haven.
I'm also sorry that I haven't been able to see TTM. It just isn't showing anywhere in my town, nor in Memphis, where I've traveled to catch House of D and Full Frontal. ;0)
I reserve a tiny hope for one local theater that finally did screen HOD, thinking that perhaps they'll eventually pick up Trust the Man and I'll get to see it on the big screen.
But if not, I'll definitely pick up the DVD.
Thanks for sharing your time and thoughts with us, David. I hope you don't make yourself scarce, but it's good that you're back home with your family after so much work.
Looking forward to all your upcoming projects,

I, for one, am really looking forward to seeing Bart Freundlich's film and watching him on the BBC's 'Talking Movies' recently, I'm impressed with his humor and integrity.

Hi David
I too am sorry that the movie didn't the wide audience that we all wanted. My husband and I went to see it and we both loved it. There were some parts that as 17 year married couple that we definitely could relate to. I don't understand the movie business and how it works. I mentioned to someone the other that it felt like we should be given detective badges for all work just to find the movie. It does seem like distributors need to make it easier to find their movies. But then I would have missed all the great people that I have meet online through searching for times and places for this movie and House of D. I too never meet Pam in person. But she was so nice and helpful to anyone who needed it. I know sometimes you must wonder about the people you meet at events but honestly I can tell you that these people have been great friends and great support at times. Thanks for doing the blog and I am glad for you that no matter what you had a great time with your friend. Who could ask for anything more.

Thanks for all the kind words about Pam, she was really sweet and fun to talk to and for sure one of your 1st admirers.
About the movie, even if it didn't turn out to be a big hit, it's great that you did what you like and that you are happy overall with your choices.
I think the fans appreciate that ;)
Have a good way back to LA and to your family .

I'm kinda upset about TTM. I hate Fox a little bit right now because it's playing nowhere in Louisiana. Closest it's playing to me is Houston. And I'm impatient, damnit. I don't want to wait for the DVD. But I also don't have the time to drive five hours each way to and from Houston to go see a movie. :(
If it was playing here, I know a ton of people who all want to see it and we'd bring in more audience-ness!! Just sayin'.

Hi David,
I (finally) got to see TTM on Saturday afternoon and must say ... LOVED IT!!! Truly funny film with characters that were easy to like. I was in a play on Saturday night and that's all we talked about backstage - I talked it up enough that everyone else was laughing just hearing my description of a few scenes and now a bunch of us are going to try and see it before our show next Saturday! I can't wait for it to come out on DVD. Will you be part of the commentary?
Have a good one! Enjoy being "home" :)

Dear David, thank you so much for saying all those kind words about Pam. She loved you a lot and I am sure she would have been so touched by your words if she would know.
Thanks again .. because even she isn't there anymore, this means a lot.
Wishing you a wonderful time in LA with your family.

it is a big disappointment that ttm didn't do well 'critically' - that, however, has little to do with how good or bad a film actually is. Good thing we are free to make up our own minds. I didn't know Pam, but it is very kind of you to note her passing - and yes, it is back to school, work, schedules and everything that goes along with all of that. 'last' = good-bye? if so, then thanks, it's been fun.....

Thank you for your very kind words about a wonderful young woman who left this world way to young. All of us that had the chance to see TTM really enjoyed it. And i must say, David, you did receive many beautiful words by the critics. Maybe the film will do better overseas. So far the reviews i've seen from there have been wonderful. Best wishes to you and hope you enjoy your family time.

David, my mother and I would like to know when/if the film (Trust the Man) is coming to the UK. And, more to the point, are you coming with it? We have wanted to go to the premiere of one of your films for a long time but evidently live on the wrong side of the Atlantic.
Without wishing to sound sad or weird, we've accidentally been stalking Gillian Anderson for years - only joking, she lives near us - and we need a change. She won't mind and we would really like to see you and support your latest movie venture.
So, come on David, - Brad, Julianne et al - bring Trust the Man to the UK and make two of David's biggest fans happy.
Best wishes to you and your family,
Helen (mother), Joanne (daughter)

David, I'm sorry your movie isn't doing great at the box office. I've seen it 3 times and love it. The movie business can sometimes be cruel.
I loved your thoughts about Pam. I never met her, but she was always such a kind person, willing to share her pictures and stories about you at the Haven messageboard. She will be missed.

Hey David,
One of the things that fascinates me about the film business is that it's always a huge gamble. Movie goers are a fickle bunch and there's no way to predict what their tastes will be. And when you think you have a hold on what the masses like, everything changes.
The great thing about film is that there's always an opportunity for it to find an audience later. Do you know how many great, classic movies failed to rake in the big bucks at the box office? Citizen Kane, It's a Wonderful Life, and Bringing Up Baby are just a few examples. The classic comedy Duck Soup was such a huge bomb that the Marx Brothers were actually fired from Paramount.
So who says that Trust the Man won't "set the world on fire?" Maybe it's just a late bloomer. Only time will tell. ;)
I just hope that you're doing work that makes you happy and proud. And you should be proud. I've seen both The TV Set and Trust the Man and you did a fantastic job with both of them. I've always felt that you were a great actor, but your latest work is really a testament to what you're capable of and how you've grown as an artist.
While I'm typing away here, I want to also say thank you for your kind words regarding Pam. Way back in 2001, I started a mailing list where people could share information about your projects. Pam was one of the first people to join my little list and she was a vital part of our online community. She was a generous lady who was always the first to remind us to set our VCRs so we wouldn't miss a talk show appearance and so on.
I met Pam for the first and only time at the Triathlon last year. I remember being excited because I was finally going to have the chance to meet you after nearly 10 years of being a fan. But, I also remember being almost as excited to meet Pam. She really was an awesome person.
Anyway, thanks for that.
Best wishes,
~~Julie~~

Dear D,
Thank you for the final blog entry and your gracious words about Pam. I didn't know her well but I'm sure those who did will welcome them.
Being on-line in a fandom is such an odd and sometimes wonderful experience. My RL (real life) friends will ask whether a person is more themselves on-line or in person. I'm not sure the answer to that but I suspect we're less self conscience that's for sure. It would be an interesting conversation over coffee though. I do know that bumping into folks (like Pam) for almost a decade now, can be extremely satisfying and frustrating at the same time. You feel a connection to people, but they aren't your friends. You notice when they're not around anymore. Like when you finally notice someone you usually see in your town hasn't been seen in weeks and you wonder where they went. Did they move? Did something happen? This on-line life is so oddly fulfilling in a totally transitory way. You have memories and moments that never happened off your computer screen! Sometimes if you're lucky, you make a real life connection and a friendship grows as a result. I'm lucky to have several real life friends now as a result of Philedom and hardly any of them have anything to do with the X-Files anymore. Now they're just us and a coffee, or a movie, or a book. Once a year get togethers in Las Vegas for long distance ones, or sharing camping equipment with nearby ones.
I think the date and circumstance is making me melancholy. Apologies ...
We look forward to the next blog DD -- have a great fall with family / friends.

David,
Great comments on the film and beautiful words for Pam. Thank you.
Love the movie, regardless of critics or numbers. Wish you all the best during your (no doubt) short period of R & R. and the best to you and your NY family on this saddest of memorial days. Five years gone and it still feels like yesterday.

I went to my both of my local theaters and asked if TTM would be coming here, sadly one said 'no' and the other 'we don't know'. Since it is so limited (100 prints I've come to find out) I must just have to wait for the dvd. It's sad things work out this way but thats what happens and we deal. There is still hope though, I will check back at the end of the month.
Maybe someone will wake up and say, "Gee, maybe we should send it to rural Arkansas, it's sure to do well there!".
On another note thanks for mentioning Pam. I think it's probably the nicest, most human thing I've seen a "celebrity" do. I didn't know her but last week I read about her death on the haven board. I'm sure she is thrilled (wherever she is) that you remembered.
I understand the paranoia thing and I suggest you keep a healthy dose. There are some very unstable people out there and sometimes strong affection can turn into something you see on the nightly news.
Keep safe and happy, all the best,
Jamie
p.s. Maybe you should invest in getting your very own blog, I'm sure it'd be very popular.

Hi David
Thanks for once again showing just how much you care about the fans out there in the big wide world. That was lovely, those comments you said regarding Pam.
As I mentioned before I will definately be supporting TTM when it opens here in the UK. Sorry to hear it's not had the success you were all hoping for. But maybe the DVD's will sell like hotcakes (as they did for your HOD)? Anyway, I've always believed it's the experience which is the most important thing. Success, fame and fortune and all that stuff isn't a priority in life. But...you know that already. ;-)
I'd just like to add that you have been an inspiration to a lot of us in so many ways. I mentioned in the past I was a trained singer? Well things are now looking up and I can't help being excited! The gigs have picked up again (at last) and I have an agent interested in me, from Manchester! :-)
Well, I hope we all meet up again in this electronic universe someday in the near future :-)
THANK YOU - for being you!
All the best to Tea and the kids.
Take Care & Stay safe.
Love, Penny xx

Thanks to you David.
I have enjoyed a lot the experience that we have shared, and I expect to be opportunity of doing it again in a future.
I love the way you are and your thoughts about Pam.
I have not been able to see still TTM, I expect that they premiere it soon in my country (although perhaps by then no longer can share no comment with you).
Take care and enjoy your family time.

Dear David,
Thanks to you and Bart for updating this blog. I'm sorry TTM didn't do better at the box office. FWIW, I watched it and I loved it! I'm looking forward to Bart's next project with Tea! ;-)
On a more somber note... I also want to thank you for your kind words regarding Pam. I was fortunate enough to have met Pam a few times over the past year. We first met at the Santa Barbara Film Fest House of D screening and after learning that we lived near each other, we must've watched HoD together at least 5 times after it opened! :-) Pam was a wealth of information... if someone had a question about about something you said in an interview 7 years ago, Pam would undoubtably be able to cite the reference!
It must feel weird to have strangers come up to you thinking they know you because you're famous... and seeing familiar faces without knowing their intentions must be disconcerting. I've questioned fans' motives from the sidelines so I can't imagine what you must feel being the source of their/our focus. But I'm hoping through our comments, you'll get to see the side of Pam that we knew... a sweet, generous, funny person and definitely one of your biggest supporters.
Enjoy your downtime with your family and friends... and best wishes for continued success and happiness.

Hey David.
I didn't know Pam, but it was really nice of you to acknowledge her.
I saw TTM at the Portland screening and it was really a great movie. I can't wait until it comes out on dvd...I missed a lot of it 'cause the audience was laughing so loud.
Thanks for doing this blog. It's been fun and I can't wait until this process starts all over again.
See you in the next blog then.

Thanks for taking the time to post these entries for us. Have you ever thought of having your own personal blog? One that you could use that wouldn't be tied to any certain movies. I thought the HOD and TMT blogs have been great. Thanks

David,
Thank you very much for your thoughts about Pam. I never had the pleasure of meeting her, but I did benefit from the pictures and experiences that she shared with all of us. Having you acknowledge her means a great deal to many of us and also helps to humanize you for us too ;)
I have had the pleasure of seeing TTM three times and have enjoyed it more each time. I hate the nasty critics. Sometimes I feel that they are paid just to be as mean as they can be. Know though, that we don't listen to them and feel that we must make our own opinions from our own experience.
Thank you so much for returning to the blog. We do enjoy hearing from you. I am glad that you are back home with your family in LA. Do enjoy this time and your family and relax. You do deserve it

I drove +70 miles to see Trust the Man at the Parisian Theatre at Cityplace in West Palm Beach with my girlfriend (also a fan of yours). It was worth the drive! I hope to see it again, closer to home, a couple of more times. And then there are The Secret and The TV Set to look forward to.
And thanks for acknowledging Pam. I never met her, but she always made me smile.

David,
Your words about Pam (a woman I only knew on a message board, but who died far far too young), along with so many of the other things you've posted on this, and on the HOD, blog show what a truly generous spirit you have, and what an interesting perspective as well. I sincerely hope that you will consider creating your own blog, to post at whenever you feel compelled. Your voice is one that I, for one, would love to hear more of.
Thank you, once more, for sharing yourself with us in this way.
Posted by: Donna | September 11, 2006 08:31 PM
David,
You always impress me with your words. You are a beautiful person both inside and out. I am glad that you recognized your fan. It probably seems strange to you that there are those of us out here that post in different fandoms. You can think of it this way, because of you there are many friendships that exist. You have brought people together from all over the country that would never have known each other except for their love of you. We are all normal people (mostly) with normal lives and problems. But because of you we have been brought together. It is amazing if you think about it. One of my best friends lives 11 hours away from me and I met her at an X-Files site 7 years ago. I would not have her in my life if not for you. So I guess I should say thank you for that as well as for sharing your incredible talent with all of us.
I know that you are disappointed in the way TTM has done in the box office. Everyone I have heard from that has seen it thought that it was hilarioius. They all agree that you were amazing. You always have us out here supporting anything you do. You can count on that. I personally am proud to call myself a fan of yours. I am consistently impressed with your talent and the way you live your life. I look forward for The TV Set. I have heard that you were spectacular.
Enjoy your time back home with your family.
All my best,
Kara S.

You are welcome, Mr. D. This has been a tough season for theater attendance and box office numbers. This year's Labor Day weekend was slower than historically recorded, and perhaps that's because there were so many movies released, and many people are building their own home theaters.
Having said that, I do believe that the production of movies will go on in a slightly different form, be it DVD or whatever the technology yields, and you will be in demand and called upon to portray characters, as will your colleagues.
Thanks for remembering Pam. She was a fan, but most certainly not a fanatic. I think we should change the word to "aficionado" to sever the ties from fanaticism.
Take care and we'll see you on the screen soon! (Personally, I think you deserve a bit of a rest.)
Pattie in southernmost Canada.

David,
Thanks so much for being you!!! I loved your movie even if it only has a small audience and also I loved your kind words about Pam. I met Pam last year at the triahlon, I was competing in it for the first time, encouraged to do it because of you. I knew of her from the Haven through her many posts and recognized her right away. I had a nice chat with her and this year we exchanged some e-mails regarding a trip a group of us fans were taking to Vancouver to see X-File locations. She told us a wonderful story about how she saw you and Blue playing in the park down from your house. She did not approach you but watched you from a bench at the park, she sent a nice e-mail to Justine from Montreal regarding her encounter and gave us some great locations to see when we were there. I asked her if she needed a ride up from California cause I was driving up, she said she couldn't go but she wanted to send me a box of magazines with articles of you and Gillian in them to give to the ladies that were coming from other countries to Vancouver. She sent the box to me and asked for nothing in return, she thought it would be great to give them to other fans that would enjoy them. This was a true look into her character and what a giving person she was to others. Thanks Pam for the memories, " The Truth is Out There" and I hope you have found it!!! Rest in Peace

Thank you, David, for your kind words about Pam. She and I corresponded online for years and finally met in NY to see a little of the HoD filming. She was a generous spirit and a good friend. It means a great deal to all of her friends that you would take the time to post about her passing.

Dear David,
it's good to see that you've returned to your family and to normal life.
I still have no idea whether TTM will be released in Germany but it doesn't matter anyhow because you will always remain in my heart. Hope you know that.
Lots of best wishes!

I second Foxsong's sentiments. I appreciate the time you devote to talking with the fans ~ including me. You must meet so many and that you remember Pam is touching, sweet and wonderful.
Thank you so much for being accessible to us, albeit briefly in this and your House of D blog. I hope you'll consider setting up your own blog and posting periodically to update us on your projects and/or just to say hi.
Warmest wishes,

That was amazing what you said about Pam. I didn't know her personally but read many of her messages on Haven. I was touched the way you reacted, shows me again and again why I'm a fan.
Also I think you don't have to worry about the movie. You or the others. Ive read so many good reviews too. It will open in Europe next week I think and although I'm afraid it won't open in Holland (still not sure about that) I will manage to see it somewhere. I'm certain it will do fine here. Good luck with everything. Please keep blogging!!!
Love and a lot of hugs to you and your family and all the others.

Hi David,
to be honest I hadn't expected to hear from you after what Fox and it's promotion did to TTM in the US. Ok, for us Europeans there still is hope that the movie will be shown over here and become a success.
If not, there still is the DVD-release we're all looking forward to. Nowadays a real good movie seems to find it's audience monstly on this new medium, so don't be to sorry! There are a lot of us out there knowing what a great job you and the rest of the cast did. And we can hardly wait for it's release. (In what form ever!)
I must say, that I got the impression, that doing this blog not only seemed a job for you, but something you cared about and took the time to read through within your busy working scedule. Thanks for doing it!
But what impressed me most, and made me admire you as a person even more, was the fact that you found such kind words for Pam.
I'm pround to call myself a fan of yours.
Wishing you, Tea and your kids all the best. Enjoy your family live.
Hopefully one day you'll decide to do a blog of your own, or for another movie?
However it was nice "talking" to you.
Best wishes

The problem with living in the UK is it feels like your always late to the party!
This blog is such a fantastic idea for promting a film. Now I am very much looking forward to seeing TTM when it comes out here!
I know it must be hard when you put so much of yourself into something, worked on it, cared about it, and then put it out there and it's not had the reception and appreciation you felt it deserved. But like you said you've made a great film, and a lot of people agree with you. That must be so satifying. Never stop expecting the best, 'cause that's hope and hope is good!
Take care

Got to see TTM last week. I went with a girlfriend but when it hits ON DEMAND and DVD I'll share it with my husband...there were so many moments when I could put the two of us in Tom and Rebecca's place...what fun is life if we can't laugh at ourselves? I also have to say that of all the things I have found amazing about "The X-Files Experience" it's that as one of the first series to create an online following, you and Gillian and the characters you brought to life in your own little way also brought a world together. It has been wonderfully fun to meet people from across the globe through this fandom and to realize that away from the rumors and politics we all want basically the same things out of life. I didn't know Pam but it's thoughtful of you to mention her. Enjoy your time with your family...those kids grow up to fast.

Once again you have proven that you are in a class of "celebrity-dom" all by yourself. It's comments like you made about a fan that you may have met once or twice but didn't "know" personally that keep endearing you to us. You are the guy next door that everyone wants to invite for dinner, you're the guy in the office whose cubicle eveyone likes to hang around, you're the kid at school that everyone wants to be friends with - you just draw people to you, because you are the person that you are. I guess you can thank your mom for that! She raised a lovely son.
I understand your being leary of people who seemed to constantly be where you are- it must be a little unnerving. But like I said there is just something about you that people are drawn to - you opitimize what everyone wants in a friend, a lover, a father, a companion,a colleague - maybe you should try being a little meaner! (just kidding!)
Honestly, David, you are wonderful. I wish you joy and peace in your life, and enjoy every moment you have with your family during your break from work.
Hope to see you back on the big screen soon when The TV Set and The Secret come out.
All the best,
Michelle

DMan - I blame Fox for the movie not getting the damn exposure it should've, I haven't seen anything advertsing wise of the movie in the UK which is stupid and defies logic. The movie won't be sucessful if nobody knows its there. Urgh. Hey, thanks for taking the time out to do this for the fans. Most celebs can't be assed so its nice and refreshing. You keep thanking us but I think, thankYOU man. Your a good 'un! See you on the next blog. Take care.
I didn't know Pam but may she sleep easy. Hugs.
Em - I AGREE lmao :)

Wonderful comments David
I did not know Pam personally either but as someone who lives in N Z and not ever being that close reading what she had to say was always fun and worthwhile and she will be sadly missed. It wouold have been nice to know her personally.
As for the movie well if the critics don't like it then we won't probably get it or if we doe it will be late late and then not advertised and so the likelyhood of missing it will be huge.
However Snakes on a Plane seriously I don't know about box office and all that but I saw tha advertisements and just knew it would be bad. In much the same way as one knows that anything with Jim Carrey in it (regardless of who else may be with him) will be bad very bad.
Apart from that as a New Zealander I can say I loved The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and have tham on DVD but have never seen King Kong and don't really want to. I do however love The Worlds Fastest Indian and own that on DVD.
I think people are better off with a wide variety of taste in film and T V and that allows for much wonderful story telling provided the acting is equivalent to the task.
Hope all continues to go well with you and yours.
Take care

Hopefully this is a good omen - Qantas Frequent Flyers club in Australia ran a giveaway to members for free preview tickets to TTM for several screenings. All tickets were gone in less than 24 hours. I logged on (I'm a FF member) and found I'd missed out.
David and Bart - this film might just find its audience DownUnder!

David, I am moved that you have taken time to mention Pam's passing. Like many others I had not met her personally but have had a lot of correspondence with her over the years and formed a friendship.
It was through an interest in The X-Files that translated into a common admiration for you as an actor and as a person that forged many deep and lasting friendships among people from every corner of the world who might otherwise have never met.
You should be immensely proud of the fact that you are the catalyst for spreading such a profound level of friendship around the globe.

Bernadette, I'm not a fan of Jim Carrey myself, but "Fun with Dick and Jane" was thoroughly enjoyable. I urge you to give that one a chance.
Posted by: Kel | September 14, 2006 04:55 AM
I agree with Kel... Bernadette, if you get chance do watch 'Fun With Dick and Jane.' I think the comedic 'chemistry' between Carrey and Tea Leoni worked very well! Another one I recommend is 'The Truman Show' as it allowed Carrey to show his sensitive side, rather than the over-the-top slapstick everyone is so used to.
Oh and Bart if you're reading this? On behalf of all the fans in here, thanks to you and Julianne for blogging with us as well. Here's hoping TTM reaches it's audience in the UK and Europe! :-)

good news, 'trust the man' is going to be released here, in portugal, in october. i didn't want to wait so long, but, whatever, it's better that never...

Hey my David,
So far no TTM at theatres here. I don't understand the way film companies think. They need to shake things up a bit and take a few chances. "Snakes On a Plane" that received so much promotion, got nowhere here.
Oh well, keep pushing for that X-Files movie, but mostly just take good care of you and yours. Enjoy those babies while you can. They grow up so fast.
I look forward to the dogfood commercials just to hear your voice.

Dear David . Please don;t be too dissapointed in the movie's reception. As these things do , they will be loved by a wider audience when it comes to DVD. Sign of the times today that theatre going are down. Prices , travel and RL etc. I find it a problem in my town as the nearest one is 30 miles from me.
When it comes out here on the 21st though I will be making whateverever journey I need to see it. Its come alive in your words and heart and Im' so looking forward to it. Please carry on blogging and thanks for remembering Pam. Remember too that although some of us may eseem very enthusiastic ,a very small minority of fans are bad eggs and would wish you harm. personally (and my cousin is an up coming actor here in the UK) I cannot see why anyone would harm anyone let alone a lovely guy like you. Enjoy being back at home and family life.
Wether the film reaches its traget audience or not , it will be loved by many anyway and will gain popeularity later that it may not have now. You And bart and all the cast dida great thing. keep doing what you are doing and please keep blogging. We love hearing from you on this interesting journey of yours in whatever you do. Its all good.
Have a great Fall season and Triathlon. Come to the UK soon.

Hey David!
You probably won't read this because there have been over 60 comments, but I wanted to say that your comments on Pam were wonderful. Yes, she was a big fan as we all are. There are some of us who have had the pleasure of being able to see you in person more than once (me for one) and it must seem strange when you spot us in a crowd. You actually have recognized me also. I understand that it must be scary not knowing the person's intent, but know that most of us want no harm to EVER come to you.
Take care,
Renée
Oh and I'm sorry that TTM didn't do well. I enjoyed it and thought you gave a wonderful performance.

i went to go see the movie on the day it came out but it wasn't showing in Miami until several weeks later...i was kind of mad about that. in any case, my friend and i went to see it and we couldn't stop laughing the entire time. its cool to see david playing such a different role. i thought it was very original and really hysterical. i loved the "last day of carbs" thing, because that totally happened to me once. all in all, it was a really great film.

Pam was a blessing, this fandom can get hairy at times but Pam was someone you could always count on to remain neutral. And sweet as can be.
You touched her in ways she never forgot, she use to talk about her run ins with you all the time. You made her world brighter through all of her problems and struggles.
Thank you for touching all of us that you take the time for. It's so nice to have somone who's so down to earth and real attached to something you love so much, something that's brought you so much joy.
I can't wait for TTM to come out on DVD, know there are some who look forward to it. Keep your chin up and don't stop doing what you do.

Hello David,
I've watched TTM in NYC while I visited the city. My friends and I love the film. At this moment I hear the soundtrack of the movie.
Wonderful story with amazing actors and actress.
Hopefully the film will be show here in Germany too.
Besides I wanna say thank you to you. I met you on the stage door of "Live with Regis and Kelly". Thank you that you had spended some minutes with me and my friends. That you had signed some pictures and made photos with some of us.
Take care.
Bye and greetings.

David and Bart - Congratulations on showing real class in promoting TTM despite abandonment by Fox Searchlight. How could TTM gain momentum - when trailers were pulled before the film was out of the starting gate? The studio hyped a wide release which never happened.
Many people were gone over Labor Day weekend when FOX failed to launch a wide release as promised. Reviews on imdb.com represented those who were eager to see the film. How can a studio abandon the audience who waited TTM's wide release?
Thank you Bart for your sensitivity and fresh take on relationships and love.
Critics and studios do not run the box office - ticket holders do. The film industry continues to promote mindless themes and crude language.Today's films lack respect for its audience.
Lets put RESPECT back into the film industry. Begin by stopping tasteless reviews and trashing of talent. Professionalism must be earned at the ticket office.
Remember the days when the price of admission allowed viewer discretion without destructing or distorting the outcome of a film?
It no wonder ticket sales are down. People are tivoing their favorite film stars in prime time to protest their right to choose and not be censored.
May TTM find its audience in the hearts of those who still believe in love and the complex nature of romance. Congrats to Bart and cast who never stopped believing in the art of a romantic comedy. Your fans TRUST your heart, vision and respect for independant films.

I couldn’t help but notice that it seems Mr. Duchovny you feel your efforts to touch the world with your movies has failed. However, the only thing that has failed is for you to realize, for whatever reason, that having a mass public respond favorably to a movie is no feat. I could go on for pages about bad decisions the mass public has made and will continue to make but this is not the point. However, the purpose of this message is to reassure you that you have touched those that truly matter and appreciate the art you, Bart, and many others devote there lives to making. Sometimes I feel discouraged when I see what is out there such as, “Snakes on a Plane”. The truth is there will always be snakes and to focus on this trivially distraction would be wasted energy. By the way I do find it sad how readily available the snake movie was and how hard it was to find this movie. Anyways, be proud of your work and make no excuses to explain the critics or public’s response. It does not matter. What truly matters? That people are out there that understand, appreciate, and allow this world to be a wonderful journey despite the confusion, the heartache, and disappointment that life inevitably brings. Thanks for being one of these people.
Ps On a lighter note, I feel obligated to admit that enjoying your work is partial easy because you are so devastating handsome. lol. I am a female by the way in case you are concerned. Well, you just never know these days. lol. -a

Hi Bart, David, Julianne...
I have just watched TTM at my local cinema and surprised myself at just how much I enjoyed it! It had me laughing loudly (not done that in a long time) and emotional. My 72 year old Mum went along with me, with trepidation I might add...and ended up really enjoying it as well.
(a few spoilers from here folks...)
I noticed many critics were on about how it was the men who had the problems and trying to sort out their relationships? Well I saw it as all four characters trying to work out where they were in life and who they were with their partners. I like the way each one was tempted by an 'outsider' before resolving the issue at hand. I also felt my own personal feelings towards infidellity would make me dislike Tom? But actually I sympathised with him. I could see just why he was unfaithful. It was the femme fatales and dorky lead actor in the play I didn't like. I felt Rebecca was quite cruel in the way she behaved with her husband at first, happily flirting with him but frigid in the bedroom...but later came to understand a reason for this which was very believeable. She had issues with sex and allowing herself to be loved. This can happen to women after childbirth. So it wasn't just the men that found it difficult to express their 'true' feelings. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed everyone's performance and no matter what the critics say, I liked the ending very much! I also found myself routing for the guys and hoping things would turn out okay.
I think my only criticism is with the alternate scene changing particularly near the begining. I understand we were being shown the lives of both couples, but felt some of these scenes were just too short and so switching from couple to couple was too fast. That's just a personal opinion.
The humour was spot on and extremely hilarious in just the right places. Some of those quips and one liners were diamonds! The bedroom scene where Tom is trying to get 'off' (keep it clean Pen :-) while his wife describes a porn movie they are watching had me in stitches! Also Tom's first visit to the sex clinic was hysterical, and Julianne choking on the cake scene, and David coming up behind her and trying to give her a heimlich manouver was SO funny!
Oh and Bart, your kids look like they had a lot of fun making the movie with everyone. :-)
I completely understand the title now as well. It was all about trying to maintain 'trust'in relationships, even if Tom did stray. Least it made Rebecca realise you have to give and take to make a marriage work.
Whereas Tobey had to learn to grow up and deal with trying to make it work with Elaine. Love that scene at the dinner table when both Tom and Tobey were taking the mickey out of Elaine's new guy. Well let's face it - he was a dork! LOL!
We then went to see 'The Queen', a complete contrast of movie about how our royal family dealt with Lady Diana's death. Can I just say I recommend this movie guys, if you get chance to see it over there. :-)
Anyway, Thank you for a very enjoyable movie. I'm also so glad Icon allowed us to see it on the big screen in the UK. It will be another one I'll definately be recommending to folks! :-)
Take Care!
Penny xx
PS: I wasn't sure which post to stick this on? So incase Bart doesn't read all of David's, then I stuck it on his as well. :-)

I think it's very kind and honorable of you to remember Pam. Your kind words are a source of solace in a time of sadness.
As for the caution.. it's perfectly understandable considering the world we live in these days. I met another fellow fan of yours once and I can say it's probably a good thing "I" met that fan instead of you, although I still question my rationality at meeting her in the first place.

My friends and I went to go see this film before two of us left to go study abroad, and it was such a good choice. We've been quoting it ever since. I think now I'll try and get my friends over here to see it, too.
The part about the lunch meat just killed us, and the whole thing was great!
Posted by: Sofia | September 28, 2006 01:58 PM
I was annoyed when I heard about FOX pulling their advertsing over in the USA. Even more so now I've seen the movie! So I'm really pushing friends and online folks to go see it! Just done a bulletin on myspace.com (and added the movie poster and Bart's stick people in the park design) :-) I know another friend who has advertised the film on myspace as well.;-)
It was not fair what FOX did and as Bart said...the critics can suck it!
Here's hoping you all get more response from the UK and Europe. And I'll look forward to adding the movie to my DVD collection when it gets released!
YOU ALL DID REALLY GREAT!!!
Love, Penny xx

Hi
It's had about two weeks at my cinema and the Manchester area in UK. Okay it's been limited to two showings a day now, but hey...it's still hanging in there! :-) Went to see it a second time yesterday, and took my sister along, who wanted to tell you she really enjoyed it. When I told her how many US critics had panned it, she answered with 'They obviously can't deal with real emotional and psychological stuff!" And knowing where the comedy is you'd think I was prepared? Nope...I laughed all over again!
Then we went to see 'World Trade Centre'. Yet another one panned by certain critcs...it wasn't dealing with the political and controversial issues. Jeeze! NO, it was dealing with the human side of humanity, and the goodness of people who were there to help others in dire need! Very powerful movie and worth seeing. Oh and Maggie Gyllenhaal's in this one as well folks. I'd never seen her until TTM, but I must say she's a very good actress.
Okay enough of ME being a critic. :-)
Now I've got Julianne's 'Children of Men' later this week. Incidentally it's No. 1 in our Top 10 Films at the moment. TTM is in there at No. 8...not bad guys!

Finally got to see TTM--on the 22nd and again on the 28th!!
I was afraid it wasn't going to show here, but our local art theater brought it in, though only for a week. ;0(
I really enjoyed it and, though I sometimes wished it had dug a little deeper into how each person finally began to understand their feelings and what was important to them, I think that a lot of the issues and "men vs. women" things were pretty realistic.
It was a lot of fun and I am really looking forward to buying the DVD in the future.
And David, you just did a fantastic job!! ;0)

Hey dude (being familiar),
been a times and times of times I wanted to share a word with you! No, not about Trust the man, tho the movie has its ratio, but I will mention it when I have my family hehe. About House of D! I want to tell you that...it does move a world! moves more. It would be crazy to expect this movie to be a mainstream, cos it is too good. I'm a big lover of old cinema, and old books. Not because of style or taste, but because they're mostly checked by a time and by streams and they are good. Any movie or a book must have a contraversial reviews, then it is good. If it doesn't have, it means it can be understood by anyone - a mainstream we call that. And if anyone understands it (knowing people) the movie is too narrow minded. To me, people like you are the lastonesleft in Hollywood. Your work (taking about House of D) reminded me of a good novel atmosphere. A cosy image and at times even neurotic adds of drama, but are not over-pushed, and yet really catching! You might get an expression of me being some nerd! Whoa not woi, I ain't :D I'm more like what you turned me into. When I was twelve I've read interview or a title about you, and it said you quoted Dostoyevsky (my favorite writer indeed), later reading Camus I found an expression you used to describe your wife in one interview (yes, yes, an orange...you don't like a orange for it's parts...you just like it all). Really talking about literature you inspired me with this mention of Dostoyevksy once, now I have read lots and lots of russian, french, british literature and after all this time I realise - you're a high form of intelligence :) The thing is, I've read somewhere that you write things too. But haven't found anything published (my dream really). Your movie was a great part of what you have to show! indeed! I myself come from a problematic family and plot has catched me. Well there is too much I want to say, and my eyes hurt for writting a bachelor's work for my dad, I'll be back again some time... ow if that moon up there was a cooky, I'd get on a ladders and take it down, but for now I demand meself to go to bed!
By the way David, thanks for life!! if not this image of yours I'd be another person, probably worse person. "Idol is a guiding star. Without it there's no clear course, and without course there's no life" L.Tolstoy.
And hey "Noble thoughts are more valuable than a great style. Style is like a coat, and thoguths are the body covered by the coeat" Dostoyevsky.
And yea, something move worlds, that something is in you aswell!

Hey David,
I've just read the news about this new TV pilot (and hopefully series) you're associated with. To serve as both leading actor and exec producer on the story about a father dealing with an addiction to sex and drugs (sounds really hard hitting.) Also reuniting with Bart for this new series 'Yoga Man' which you're writing the pilot for, and he's directing.
"'Shampoo' in a yoga studio." Sounds like fun! I wish you both a lot of luck with those. I also heard you enjoyed directing the cast in an episode of 'Bones'. I'm starting to really like that series based on the real-life forensic anthropologist and novelist Kathy Reichs. The UK starts the second series this week. It also looks like we'll be getting 'The Secret' (probably DVD) and 'The TV Set'next year. More things to look forward to! :-)
I'm feeling rather good as I'm getting some recognition for my talent at last. After entering a singing competition (not unlike our X Factor) the final seven contestants (which included me) were told by top record industry folk that we were the highest standard of talent they had seen, and it was difficult to judge us. I didn't go through to the semi-finals, but one of the record producers wants us back for a showcase in front of agents and managers. I've also been invited back to the hotel to sing in a xmas showcase (where I'll be getting paid 'real' money again! (lol) On top of that my husband just won us three nights in Las Vegas. So I'll be going back to the US real soon! Way cool! :-)
Last week I showed a girlfriend 'New Year's Day' (I've had a while on video) and to my surprise she really enjoyed it. I've always liked these talky psychological art movies myself (though sadly it seems the majority arn't able to grasp the concept of these.) I find they make you really think about life (both it's funny and serious sides) and you find you can relate on a realistic level. In my opinion we need more dramas like that and less of the over-hyped, threadbare storylined, all special effects, brash and glamour types.
It's nice to see your former XF colleagues are doing okay. Gillian's movie 'The Last King Of Scotland' has had great reviews and 'A Cock & Bull Story' did very well (very funny film!) Mitch has his recurring role in 'Stargate Atlantis (not my cup of tea, but good to see he's out there) and Nick's in 'Whistler' (been there a few times :-) Then Robert's got 'The Unit' (really enjoying that show) and Annabeth's got 'Brotherhood' (too much graphic violence for me I'm afraid.)
Well I do look forward to future blogs in whatever shape or form. Perhaps with you and Bart again with this new series? Or your other new project? I noticed David Boreanaz does a Blog for the official 'Bones' website and his fans get to speak on the message boards . That'd be great if you could do something like that to keep us informed?
Whatever you decide? All the best, and Take Care!
Penny xx
PS: Glad to hear the DVD's of 'House Of D' are selling so well! I still think it would have been cool though if you'd been given the chance to play Robert Langdon in 'Davinci Code'. When I read Dan Brown's 'Angels & Demons' a year or so ago, I pictured you as that fictional character.

Hi, David! I'm sorry I don't really have anything relevant to say about this entry, but I just wanted to leave a comment here because I suppose you'll end up reading this one day, so at least you'll know what I have to say.
I just got into The X-Files last month (I know, I know, I'm the last person on the planet), and I'm sure you're tired of hearing such stories, but oh well, I just have to tell you I'm so smitten by you! I read that you dropped out of doctoral studies at Yale to pursue an acting career, and you clearly succeeded in making that work out, and now you direct and write, too. I think that's so cool and brave (that you took that chance). :)
I watched that one episode of Bones that you directed, but I really hope you'll act in some movies in 2007 because I love to watch you act! You said in an interview or something that acting doesn't come naturally to you, but you really are rather good at it, and it's fun to watch. Plus, I'm smitten, remember? :D!
Basically, thanks for devoting so much time to The X-Files and all your other projects. You're like the ultimate consummate actor or something. Seriously! It seems like you can balance your career and personal life so well, and that's really endearing. :)
I'll be milling around here every now and then in hopes that you'll update, but until you do, I hope you and your family will have a safe and wonderful holiday season and a happy new year. :)

Happy New Year! " May we all have a vision now and then of a world where every neighbour is a friend." Lyrics from ABBA which say it all really.:-)
Speaking of music, I'm just reeling after New Year's Eve as I got to be warm-up girl for the famous 60's band 'The Four Tops'! Along with other respectable artistes. It was so awsome to start the cabaret off with four songs at the Acton Hotel. I was full of cold as well but proud that I managed to pull it off. I got paid
