wow
Just to dispel any bad rumors... the movie is still being released wide by fox despite some... well... less than desirable reviews... I feel so proud of this film and I know it is funny and heartfelt and worthwhile... I really hope you will all go to see it when you can... We really need you all... and ten friends... Critics... im trying to think of a way to be understanding and human here.... critics can suck it... The only time I ever read critics are when they are reviewing my own work because... well because im too weak not to and I know the way they review the film will directly influence the way in which the distributor markets (or doesnt) market the movie. Fox will keep the film in theaters but will rely soley on word of mouth from now on spending $0 on ads... Nice to have a company that really believes in your movie... the truth is, they never found a way to market the film... This movie should have been marketed as "a chick flick with balls" (duchovny's line not mine, but brilliant all the same.) The ads should have been geared toward men, all over sportscenter and sunday night baseball... " If you want to have sex with your wife, go see this movie" Money back guarantee... it needed and warranted that kind of edge... We pushed for that but lost. So now here we are hoping that people will go see the movie and love what we all love about it... by we i mean me, Julie, David, maggie, james, Billy C, Eva, garry, Ellen, Glenn F, Tim P producer... I'm so lucky to have the undying support of all those talented people and I want people to experience what they did in this film... if any of you guys are reading this thank you for your belief in me... and thank you to all of you folks who go to see this film...
all the best
Bart

Well, Bart, I've seen it three times, and I'll definitely take my husband to see it because it contains a very valuable lesson:
Even a guy who looks like David Duchovny is a lot less desirable when he doesn't have a job.
Oh, and Bart. . . A BLINTZ? Who eats ONE BLINTZ?

SO happy to hear that the wide realease is still a go. A lot of us are counting on it. Yes, it is too bad that the movie wasn't marketed towards men, as it seems that it should have. My husband was sold when we watched David on Leno and he told the story about your son trying to punch him in the balls. So I get what your saying about the marketing. So, Bart, when is the project "over" for you? Is it ever? Do you still think about Myth of Fingerprints and who might be renting it and what they think about it, or does a film have a journey in your mind that will eventually end?

It's a shame that no advertising money is going toward this film. I can't wait to see it, and I promise that everyone I know will definately hear about it ;)
good luck.

Word of mouth indeed. Mind if whore it out online? How about printing flyers? Bugging my theatre to keep it playing longer?
I will do all of the above. I may live in a small town but I believe I can still have an impact.
The critics can suck it, indeed. :D
More than looking forward to wide release.

Hi Bart,
it's to bad to hear that Fox will not advertise this movie any more.
It hasn't even been released over here in Europe and we're so looking forward to see it. Hopefully over here it will get better critics and more men are going to watch the movie!!
Cross my fingers and although that a lot of US-men will still go and watch the movie. (Even when forced by their wifes to go and see TTM...!)
Good luck

I'm glad to hear that the reviews won't affect the movie opening wide, because, unfortunately, much of this is far too familiar from what happened with House of D. David WAS the marketing for that movie. And although the movie opened "wide," if you blinked, you missed it. (The distributor certainly didn't win any friends among us for doing that.) We're hoping for something much better here. But thankfully, so much of the money is in DVDs these days, so even if you don't get a fair shot at the box office, word of mouth can still sell DVDs. Some movies, that's the only way we get to see them in smaller or distant markets.
BTW, I still haven't read or heard any of the reviews, and I'm still eagerly anticipating our local screening next week. And please keep blogging. It makes us feel like part of the experience with you, and in that sense, it becomes our movie too, which makes us really want to help spread the word.
Posted by: bellefleur | August 22, 2006 10:27 PM
I missed all the commotion around the release and so forth - it's a good thing that what most people like - or don't like - isn't dependant upon a critics review - but I really don't know how you (and duchovny re: hod) do it - hang yourself out there like that - now that takes balls - and lol@ that chick with balls tag - I used that to compliment a female student once - because she had great big balls. so word of mouth it is and you know you have it with the fan base here......

Hi Bart,
I'm glad the movie's going to be released wide. I've seen it twice and really enjoyed it.
I think promos should've run with SportsCenter, too, and I'm pleased the studio chose to promote it during The Daily Show.
I read that Julianne is booked on the Letterman show on Sept. 1, How about Conan, Leno, Ferguson and the others and promote the film? Billy and Maggie, too, and David, I'm sure, will do whatever he can from Vancouver.
I think Trust the Man will find an audience, you just have to tell them it's out there.
As for getting the word out, anyone who posts to this blog and who would be willing to make a banner or two and include them on your Web sites and with your posts in your Internet travels, that can only help.
Talk it up, everywhere. It's a smart, sweet, funny film.
No matter what the critics say, Bart, you should be proud.
I'll bet none of them could make a film!
Oh, and I agree with Kel. Who can eat only one blintz?
That's meshugga!!

Stay in good spirits! As with David's movie, House of D, this movie WILL find an audience. It HAS found an audience. Just look at the response here on the blog. WE are the audience. And we WILL get the word out on the movie. This is a wonderful movie and people will see it for what it is. I luv your messege for the critics, and since I have no ties with them, I may include Fox in this as well....they can both SUCK IT!

Last night I checked the theater listings for this weekend and was relieved to see TTM opening at one near my home. I've seen it three times already - but my hubby wasn't able to join me any of those times. I really want to see this film with him, not just because I try to find any excuse whatsoever for us to have a date, but because I know he will enjoy it. Advertising on SportsCenter wouldn't have drawn him in, thought. He has to be dragged to the movies by his wife. That might be the case with more men than one would think, and if that's so maybe you will get the word of mouth among men that this film needs.
You made a fun film with a lot of heart; F the critics, Bart.

Bart,
I have seen this movie twice and although I loved it the first time, I enjoyed it even more the second time. I also think that many of those critics did not see the same movie that I saw. I swear that they are paid to be nasty, it is unbelievable. BTW, each time I saw the movie was with a group and none of us have any problem with going to see it again.

Hey Bart,
I believe in you, too, although unfortunately I probably won`t be able to see Trust The Man over here in Germany. It was the same thing with House of D. last year. I so much wanted to see this movie, but I can`t even get it on DVD here!
Sad thing, because these are the kinds of movies that I am really interested in. From what I`ve heard about them, they describe human life in a much more profound way than a lot of other American movies. I think it`s crazy that we over here only get to see most of the bullshit movies from the American market! We`re being flooded by this hollow stuff!! That probably gives a lot of people here (those who don`t know about the existence of websites and movies like this one) a very wrong and superficial image of the American culture and arts. And either they criticize it, turn away from American stuff in general and rather enjoy the profound artwork of their own country or they accept it and copy the behaviour they see on the screen in a way that is both humiliating and frustrating for the wakeful ones who witness it.
However - I`d be really grateful, if you, the authors and producers in Hollywood, did everything to get yourself a better marketing for the movies that can really teach us something, so we Europeans can take part of your alternative movie culture, too. We really miss this insight over here!
Keep on trucking, Bart and David and all the other big talents in Hollywood!!!

Critics are a curious lot. I always wondered how they chose to work in that capacity. There is some trivia for you - who was the first recognized critic? My guess would be some near-do-well raconteur who lived by his charm and wit more than any talent (and ended up losing his head for being found in the wrong Gentlewoman's bed).
Maybe you should contact the producers of Ebert and Roeper and volunteer to fill in for Roger Ebert for a show? Could be interesting...
Chin up!

To be honest i've read a lot more positive reviews than bad ones which is great! Big middle finger up to those negative reviews. So glad its getting released over in Ol' Blighty! Very excited and damn right im gonna take all my big crew of mates with me. Group visit to the cinema. LMAO @ chick flick with balls and 'if you want to have sex with your wife, see this movie' damn i think that would work!!
Fox smox, ill promote it enough round my way you should pay me!

Hi Bart
I am so glad that the movie will still be out there. I am sad to hear that the promotion budget for it is nothing though. I don't understand the movie business at all I guess. I love David's line, I think that pretty well covers the movie. It must be so frustrating to work for so long and then have the studio not really support you. I say keep it out there and we will help all that we can. I guarantee that as soon as it comes anywhere near me I will be there.

Just wanted to say, saw the movie and am very tempted to go see it again... I haven't laughed so much in a long time!
It was beautifully directed and acted and, as an actress myself, it looked like the kind of project that anyone would be extremely lucky to be involved with... I am guessing you guys had a lot of fun making it and it shows..
The movie deserves more recognition than it is getting, but you can rest assured that the people that are seeing it love it!
Best wishes and congratulations to all involved,
Clare
P.S. And what great locations for the movie... Loved seeing all my local restaurants get an acknowledgement!

Hi Bart
I was very pleased to read on 'Empire's' website that it's still being released in the UK on Sept 22nd. My Mum is now interested as well as several friends.:-)
Love what you said about critics - they can suck it! LOL! But like Ams pointed out, I have also read far more positive reviews on the movie than negative.
Also the line David came out with, about it being a chick flick with balls. Shame that couldn't have been used for the tag line. (lol)
I lost my faith in FOX a long time ago. But keep your chin up, as they say in jolly old England. We are all out here spreading the news!

I saw the film twice, and I'm looking forward to seeing it again with my husband. While there were some critics that didn't "get it" I think that many did and really liked the film. Even some that didn't love it still said that your cast of actors were charming. I hope that word of mouth does keep the film in the theatres. Boy would I love it if it did do well despite what some of the critics said.

Well, the first problem is dealing with a studio whose initials start with an F and end in an X. They've never met a show they couldn't F up or cancel. *sigh*
I keep looking for TTM in my area but it keeps saying nothing. It looks like it's at the Metro in Seattle, but that's over 45 mins away from me and I'm not sure if anyones tried to drive around Seattle lately ...
I like "Chick Flick with Balls." I think you should patent that and quick.
I'll keep looking for it!

Hi Bart!
I'm looking forward to seeing TTM at the free screening in Dallas on Aug. 29th.
Of course, that will NOT be the only time I see it! So, yes, you'll get some money out of my pocket (not to mention the friends and family I'll take with me)!
As for critics -- screw 'em! (Or maybe not - that would be amazingly repulsive.) Critics, in my opinion, are nothing more than failed filmmakers and so get their jollies out of bringing others down.
Saying that critics "suck it" really doesn't cover it as widely as it needs to be said. However, what I'd *truly* prefer to say can't be said in polite company.
Don't listen to that drivel, Bart. If you do, and take it to heart too much, you'll quit doing what you love.
Why Fox Searchlight has dropped the ball on this before it's even *really* been released is a mystery to me. Filmmaking can be such a mysteriously bizarre and backwards business, and you, as the writer and director, are at the mercy of the Big Omnipotent Studios.
Whatever.
I'll go see what *I* want to see and nothing any critic says will alter my decisions. I learned to NOT trust critics long, long ago.
I will, however, "Trust The Man."
Make the films *you* want to make, films from your heart! Otherwise, Bart, you'll be leaving us to future dregs of Hollyweirdness, aka "Snakes On A Plane 2."
Or worse (if one can even imagine something worse than that).
Oh, and listen to what Marlene (above) said. She's a smart lady -- and a long-time friend; she says what she means and knows what she's talking about.
Thanks Bart -- and David, Julianne, Billy, Maggie, et al.!

Still, I feel bad because free screenings really don't help the movie makers do they?
Thanks for the info.

Michelle,
Glad to help you!
Where did I get this info? Well, I have friends in low places. {{{vbeg}}}
Actually, someone sent the link to me, so I posted it for you -- and anyone else who might use the info.
As to going to the free screening, well, chances are that the theatre showing the screening will also be one of the ones to show it for the price of admission, too, come September 1st.
Screenings are a normal part of the movie-making process. So don't feel bad about going to the freebie; just plan to go again and pay for a ticket or two!
Just check with that theatre to find out.
And, you're welcome!

Michelle,
A good place to go for info on "Trust The Man" *and* if you're a Duchovny fan, not to mention X-Files, is this board:
http://p102.ezboard.com/bmuldersrefuge37620
To find into on TTM and upcoming Duchovny films, go to the "Potpourri" section (the first one on the board).
All sorts of info on the film and anything Duchovny is doing can be found there (almost always posted by my friend, "Pippy," whom I very affectionately refer to as "David Duchovny's Unofficial PR Agent." LOL - but true!
Go take a look and join us. It's a LOT of fun!

Bart - I saw the movie last weekend in the Chicago area and I am planning on going again this weekend and bringing different friends. I've been telling everyone I know to go see it. I absolutely loved the movie and I think it is a shame about the way it is being treated by both Fox and the critics. I loved the part with Julianne describing the porn movie -- priceless.
PS - I also just saw "Myth of Fingerprints" for the first time. Good stuff - keep up the good work :)
Posted by: EQ | August 23, 2006 08:33 PM
In my area this movie is being promoted like nobody's business. Trailers on TV appear often, for example. I also caught an HBO special the other day. I saw the preview this last weekend when I went to see "Little Miss Sunshine". Even my best friend Heather knows about this movie, and if she knows about it then it is being well promoted.
And not to be negative... but some of the comments about critics are funny and have made me want to comment about said comments. If the reviews were across the board great than no one would be saying, "Well... critics suck because they are failed showbusiness-ers. Who are they to call this movie great?!" So... some of you are being critical of critics who are being critical. Aside from thinking that kind of silly, I just wanted to ask: if you like the movie, why does it matter if a critic does? If you truly like the product you shouldn't need validation from outside sources. Everyone has an opinion and it so happens that critics are paid to... critique. All of this being my (apparently not very) humble opinion, of course.
Anyway, I do hope this film does well and finds an audience. Julianne Moore pretty much always deserves a good sized chunk of an audience.

Guess I just don't get the logic of promoting the film for limited release...and then pulling the ads when it goes wide. Shouldn't it be the other way around? We had ads here in Cleveland prior to the premier and now...nothing. Makes no sense to me but I'll pass the word...

I love the poster. xD It's...stunning.
I gave up on critics a long time ago. I never read them, cuz they just ruin everything.
When I see a trailer and like it, I go and see the movie. Just so I can make my own opinion. And I love a lot of movies the critics don't. And I've been waiting almost 2 years for this movie, and if it doesn't come out here, I'll cry! :(
But if it does, I'll watch it more than once. Duh? I waited 2 freakin' years. haha ;D

Just got back from the movie up here in Toronto. I have to admit I missed when it was released (last week maybe?), didn't see any reviews at all - but when I saw it in the listings this afternoon I knew which movie I'd be seeing.
You might be pleased to know it got top placement at the theatre, getting the largest room in the place and for an afternoon audience it had an ok turn out (18 people?).
I enjoyed the sentiment and the performances. Billy C continues to surprise.

I was planning to go see this movie tonight in a private theater company here in Protland but when I called for times they dropped it because the movie got bad critisim. Im so upset that Snakes on a Mother Freaking Plane is playing everywhere but you cant find a place playing this movie. I think the cast alone should be able to sell this movie. Everything about it looks like something people want to see. Im going to see this as soon as I can and I will buy it when its available. I hate the critics too Bart!

I just saw it today and I really liked it! The performances were great and I totally laughed out loud so many times. The guy next to me seriously sounded like he peed his pants a few times and I think he cried a little at the end (I actually got a little teary eyed myself). Anyhoo - screw the critics! I believe that you made a fantastic film! I know that people will go and see it and spread the word!

Hey everyone!
I just wanted to let you all know that I finally got my HoD-DVD!!! Now I only have to wait till I get it in the mail, but I`m already so happy, because I`ve been curious about this movie since it was made in 2003!!! :) :) :) *YIPIIIIIEEEHHH*
It was quite an adventure to order it on a Dutch website, because I can`t speak Dutch. I just tried to guess most of what they wanted from me and then took a dictionary, which was funny, too, because for someone, who knows English, German and Low German, Dutch often looks like a mixture out of these languages and a lot of words remind me of German dialects like Saxon or Rhenish. For me it probably feels similar to how reading Polish or so feels for a Russian. As far as I know, the Dutch language actually developed out of the German and English language, because of the trade between these countries... Whatever. I don`t wanna bore you with language stuff.
Yet something else:
Bart,
Did you know that your name consists of two German words? "Bart" means "beard" and "Freundlich" means "friendly". So BARTFREUNDLICH translated into English means "beard-friendly". ´:-) Did you parents intend that or is it an accident?
I`m not trying to make fun of you, I just thought it`s an interesting thing!! :-)
Ok. I really don`t wanna go ahead spamming this blog with things that have nothing to do with TTM! ;-)
So, take care everybody and have a good week-end!!!*

Hi guys- David, I am a HUGE fan of yours (Yes... I was hooked from the start with the X-Files). I think you're great in romantic comedies, so I am really looking forward to seeing Trust the Man. Return to Me is still one of my favorite movies.
Anyhoo- I hope Trust the Man makes its way to a Richmond, VA theater sometime soon. My husband and I will definitely be going.
Don't pay attention to any bad reviews - no one seems to have good taste anymore. :)

Unfortunately it seems as though critics can make or break a film. So even though i don't go by what the say many people do. But more important, since it is an independent film the backer (Fox Searchlight) is putting weight on what the critics have said. Do i blame them, i don't know:) I do think however if given a chance it could get an audience. I guess bottom line it just does not work that way.

Hey Linda!
I`m 23. Maybe you remebered that I`m very young, because it was my birthday last year on the HoD-blog. You were there, too, weren`t you?
What`s your url at myspace?
I don`t mind that we`re not the same age, I have many friends that are older than me!

They call them "critics" for a reason. Honestly, I've seen a lot of good movies that got panned by critics. At least I thought they were good >.>
I'm going to see it somehow. I cant right away cuz tommorow I have to jump back into a sticky situation-I'm not going to bore everyone wityh details.
Well, anyway..I'm sorry everyone is being such an ass about promoting the movie. Good luck.

to Bart and david,
you are talented actors, you are very appreciated in France. i'm 21 years old, and i'm fan of xfiles for 8 years. i'm sure that all of people come to see trust the man. Maybe Bart and dd come in France for preview !! it will be fantastic !!!
Posted by: Dominique, FRANCE | August 29, 2006 12:34 PM
Bart, I'm looking forward to seeing the film. Your lovely wife is always a delight to watch and Billy and Maggie look wonderful in the previews. I'd watch David stand there and breathe, so the fact his performances are so enjoyable is a bonus and he looks fabulous in this. ;) I'm hoping TtM will appear in our community, but just in case it doesn't, please tell me this will be out on DVD? I really hope so. I want the film for my small (and growing) DD collection and will get it if I can, but I really hope to see it on a big screen too.
BTW, do you have any idea as to when we will get to see The Secret and The TV Set?

I was lucky enough to go to a special showing of "Trust the Man" in my town Tuesday night. I liked it a lot, and I think Fox Searchlight missed the boat by not figuring out how to market to men. Why not show commercials during football broadcasts or other male-oriented programs? Finding a way to show guys that this is a great movie with humor they'd enjoy, while making points with the ladies for the romantic angle would have been a coup. It would have been studied in marketing classes for years to come.
(for the record, I'm female, but I loved the interaction between Tobey and Tom -- it seemed very genuine to me, even if sometimes I wanted to whack them upside the head)
So those of us who have seen it, it's up to us. Humor that's strong enough for a man -- but funny enough for women, too.
Well, okay, that tag line's probably been used -- but it could easily have been something like that.
I see that Julianne is going to be on Letterman tonight. I'll be watching!
Best of luck with the wide release tomorrow!!

Saw it last night - laughed myself silly - very funny and smart - but i noticed a couple of line changes from the trailers- is there a diff between the US & Canadian release?
Posted by: Angie | September 1, 2006 08:30 PM
The movie finally opened in my area, so I went to see it today. Plan to go see it again at least once or twice more. And I know many of us are looking forward to seeing Julianne and David do the talk show circuit next week!

The look on Tobey's face when he gives out his email address is classic. I loved the movie, Finally got to see (got pulled over on the way there) Got out of the ticket :> Good job all you were great!

Hi Bart and David!
The movie opened here in Columbus Friday so I finally got to see it, and I really loved it. It was so funny and sweet and heartfelt, but with ballsy guy-stuff too. It was an early show, so small crowd, but I heard lots of laughing and people clapped at the end, so I think word-of-mouth will help a lot (I'm doing what I can!)
The actors were just wonderful and they should be really proud of their work.

wow too bad we were expecting TTM in France on September 20th, and now we have to wait until November 22nd ! well the only good side is that it will be like a birthday present for me, with two days late... :p

Hi
It's being released in England where I'm sure it'll do well. It seems very unfair that there's been such little publicity about it over here.

Has anyone seen launch week trailers for "Trust the Man"? Trailers were stopped by Fox Searchlight two weeks before the studios much hyped Sept.1 wide release. What does this mean?
After calling theaters who took ad space for Sept.1 release, I was told TTM may not be distributed by Fox Searchlight for wide release as promised, but to "select only" markets and theaters.
Fox marketed posters and trailers in theaters for weeks to generate hype and an audience for TTM. Its website was not user friendly, but generated publicity for the film.
Was this an intentional move by the studio to generate interest in DVD sales rather than pay the price of distributing the film in a wide release? Why would a studio show lack of support by pulling trailers the week before coming out of the starting gate?
Fox Searchlight must earn TRUST with its audiences by delivering to theaters what it had promised with its hype for a Sept. 1 wide release.
Trust begins and ends with with communication.
Relationships grow with equal parts of love and accountability.
Predictible or not - only the relationship knows.
The entertainment industry needs to measure success by the dollars and sense of PROFESSIONALISM, TRUST, and FAIR PLAY. Critics, writers, actors and audiences must earn trust.
Since when is the price of admission dictated by the unfair playing field of
studios and critics? Why not give audiences choice to see a film in the first place?
Critics and audiences seem confused by "unbalanced reviews" and unfair aim at Freundlich's "predictable love story".
See IMBD.com and rottentomatoes.com. Audience reviews range from 2.5-4 and 7/10. Quite respectable against some of the critics who fail to write with credibility and professionalism.
After finding the film, I viewed it on Labor Day with 20 friends and their adult children. We ranged in age from 30-65 with very different tastes in films. Surprisingly, we all had a terrific time. The pizza party afterward found us discussing the difference between "real relationships" - commited or otherwise, in an era of changing moral values.
Freundlich stimulates communication between the sexes with generational viewpoints and varying expectations of the film.
Yhe film's message implies trust must be "earned". Trust is never a privilege based on love/relationship status. Biased critics feel "predictable" stories have limited appeal in dictating what is real in relationships today.
Frendlich writes with sensitivity and humor. Frequent laughter and smiles indicated the audience appreciated real-life humor; whether a single or married couple, straight or otherwise. The great soundtrack, terrific photography and feel-good ending was a refreshing breather from themes with apple pie mentality, and sexually graphic content - aimed at ratings and sales.
Trust the Man seems to be a love story meant to entertain people able to make their own choices about what a "relationship is and isn't."
Are critics and studios playing on a fair playing field? Much criticism seems to be directed to the studio for pulling trailers the week before its much hyped wide release Sept.1.
Freudlich seems to be the target of unprofessional reviews written to bash the director's personal life as husband to Julianne Moore. I have been impressed with Bart, Julianne, David, Maggie, Billy and Eva's loyalty to promote the film despite the lack of studio support with advertising.
Give TTM a chance. It is implied to entertain those who enjoy relationship stories. I'm sure it was not written for an Oscar nod - but for an audience who likes fun and romance. Trust the Man's stellar cast is worth the price of admission. I am glad I trusted not the man - but my own instincts to see this film.
I called theaters with TTM listings posted in our metro newspaper trying to find the reason why they were were not carrying the Sept.1 wide release. I was told by theater managers, that Fox Searchlight did not distribute the film as promised in theaters for months. Why would Fox Searchlight pull the trailers two weeks before releas? Why would Fox put so little publicity into its own vested interest?
Fox Searchlight ran trailers for several weeks prior to its wide release. Disappointed movie goers saw the trailers and the posters at their neighborhood theaters prior to its wide release Sept.1. It appears to be a quiet effort by Fox to spend as little money as possible for the right to trust studio instincts; rather than the privilege of measurong success at box office.

Hey David!
I hope you read this:
I just saw House of D for the first time! (I watched it twice right away!!!)
I just wanted to tell you how much I love it!!! Not only that it has such a great atmosphere and there are all kinds of emotions in it (in such an intense and sensitive way), but I think it`s just brilliant. And wonderful. Words can`t describe that...
After I finished watching HoD I felt like a newborn child; as if this was the first minute of my life. :-)
Thank you so much for this movie, David! It`s definitely an inspiration for me!
And please make more movies in the future! You`re brilliant!! Please make the world feel alive again!

Well, I'm waiting for that 'discussion post' but it doesn't seem to be coming - I've got questions - such as:
What was the easiest part about writing/filming?
If you could go back and change one thing, what would it be?
How is the writing process for you? Do you go in spurts - do you have an overview and hash out the details - or do you work from the details and they take you? do you hear it in your head or see it?
How much did what we see change from what you envisioned?
Did the selection of actors change anything?
We heard all about how it was seeing Julie with David - but what was it like seeing your kids in those roles?
How do you manage to put the garbage that's spewed out in the name of an intellectual critique - use your snobbiest accent when reading that line please - and ignore it? Does it affect how you view your work or are you able to get above it? (btw - have seen it, thought it was hysterically funny and touching all at once - love the new chick flick with balls tag line)
Is there one line or one moment that defines this film for you? (I've got my own pick)
Bart - you are now added to my short list of actor/director-types whose work I follow. This was a wonderful film - it wasn't hard to see these characters as real people - small touches like Julie using her own retainer and the dialogue accompanying it, the opening scene in the bathroom, and the scene where Tom has to go to the bathroom and Julie is shoving cake in her mouth added to the realism. One of my favourite lines is delivered by Gary Shandling as only Gary can.
Wonderful!

Hi Bart:
I just saw your beautiful movie yesterday and was touched by it in many ways. So much so that I was moved to read a blog for the first time in my life :). I saw World Traveler several years ago in Movies 101 and I still talk about it. You are an extremely talented guy and I'm shocked that your movies do not get the attention they so obviously deserve. One final note, I recently moved out of NYC and your movie actually made me ache to be back there...Best of luck to you and all the members of this glowing cast.

hi guys,
i'm guite pleased to be at England at the moment where they (suprise) had some ads (well some, i meant two). we saw your movie two days ago and it was one of my best nights i ever spent in a cinema. I was touched by it in so different ways and I'm glad that you go your own ways.
I'm quite concerned about the paternalism by film industries 'cause a lot of this "independent movies" will never synchronize for other countries. so i assume my sister-in-law would love this movie but she's german ;)
All the best and cheers ;)

Just wanted to let you know I loved the movie! It was only here for a week, and I wish I'd had more time to tell all my friends to see it. I'm spreading the word to friends in larger cities, who might still have the opportunity.
