I like it. Makes you more curious about the movie than the one you have now ;-) I am also curious which talent drew those little thingies on the poster.
I love this design. It's so simple; the colours and typography are excellent and the message is clear. This design visually communicates the heart of the film much more than the one eventually chosen.
I also was disappointed that the original House of D poster (yellow and black 70's style design) was not used in the end. As a designer myself, I would have been very proud to have been able to produce something like that.
Anyway, I know there's various marketing pressures which influence these issues.
But when you have a cast as good looking as you did, there isn't a marketing department in the world that would let you get away with a poster that didn't include their faces. Am I right?
It's stunning to me, the absolute lack of vision and creativity exhibited in marketing departments. I work in publishing, and it's the same thing with books. They just don't want to hear about creative ideas for reaching nontraditional audiences (targeted online marketing, for example). It's all about getting a review in the NYT Book Review, and nothing else. It's stupid and shortsighted, and everyone--company, author, audience--loses. Sounds like you're experiencing much the same with your film. I share your frustration.
Bart, I love that other poster, but could you post the new one too so we can print it? We can put them up everywhere then and promote the movie ourselves. It's for free also!!!!
That poster just about sums up the male/female relationship and its connundrums! Nice touch.
Maybe it should be in a promotional ad: show the poster first, then have a narrator sad, "Could this be you and your partner? Trust the Man. In theaters... "
Hi Bart, David, Julianne and anyone else involved...
I've just watched 'Talking Movies' on SKY and they were talking about how using the internet to sell movies could become the 'in' thing.
Apparantly the star of that 'Snakes On A Plane', Samuel L Jackson has being doing video links as well as voice mails to his fans on the Net, to sell the movie.
Now David, I know you did those voice mails to us on your HOD blog and what a treat it was for us fans! :-)
Perhaps you and the rest of the cast and Bart could try this? Get more bums in seats at the cinemas?
Great idea about setting up this Profile link as well to myspace sites. I've already found several new friends including another female singer (very talented I might add)called Amanda (from the USA) and her fella. :-)
This is nothing wrong with the trailer. Critics are a toss of the coin. Half wrong and Half right. The movie about real life with a comic touch. Harry Met Sally and the movie the Break UP, its in this same style of genre. The only thing I would consider changing is the song. Too romantic, choice of scenes are perfect for a male and female audience. This movie may have a slow climb, but this blog is a great idea to bring in those tickets!
I saw Trust the Man last week. We (my husband & I) had to drive 45 miles to Waltham, MA to see it, but it was worth the trip. I hope it plays closer to home (Blackstone) because I loved it and can't wait to see it again!!
We'll be in CA at the end of Sept. and I hope I can meet David again at the Triathlon and tell him in person how much I enjoyed the film. And to all the other players, you were fab!
Bart, this doesn't have anything to do with your post, but I just wanted to say I went to the free Fox Searchlight screening in Montreal last night, and I'm thrilled to tell you, the theatre was PACKED, and everybody laughed and laughed. I imagined all those people going to work today, saying to their friends and collegues : You have to go see Trust the Man!
And a big thank you for the posters that were given after the representation!! It makes me feel better after not being able to get the old one that was at the Toronto Film Fest last year. We even asked the theatre manager...
Thanks again!
P.S: I couldn't figure out which 5 minutes were cut from last year's version! Help me out?
I have just watched TTM at my local cinema and surprised myself at just how much I enjoyed it! It had me laughing loudly (not done that in a long time) and emotional. My 72 year old Mum went along with me, with trepidation I might add...and ended up really enjoying it as well.
(a few spoilers from here folks...)
I noticed many critics were on about how it was the men who had the problems and trying to sort out their relationships? Well I saw it as all four characters trying to work out where they were in life and who they were with their partners. I like the way each one was tempted by an 'outsider' before resolving the issue at hand. I also felt my own personal feelings towards infidellity would make me dislike Tom? But actually I sympathised with him. I could see just why he was unfaithful. It was the femme fatales and dorky lead actor in the play I didn't like. I felt Rebecca was quite cruel in the way she behaved with her husband at first, happily flirting with him but frigid in the bedroom...but later came to understand a reason for this which was very believeable. She had issues with sex and allowing herself to be loved. This can happen to women after childbirth. So it wasn't just the men that found it difficult to express their 'true' feelings. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed everyone's performance and no matter what the critics say, I liked the ending very much! I also found myself routing for the guys and hoping things would turn out okay.
I think my only critisicsm is with the alternate scene changing particularly near the begining. I understand we were being shown the lives of both couples, but felt some of these scenes were just too short and so switching from couple to couple was too fast. That's just a personal opinion.
The humour was spot on and extremely hilarious in just the right places. Some of those quips and one liners were diamonds! The bedroom scene where Tom is trying to get 'off' (keep it clean Pen :-) while his wife describes a porn movie they are watching had me in stitches! Also Tom's first visit to the sex clinic was hysterical, and Julianne choking on the cake scene, and David coming up behind her and trying to give her a heimlich manouver was SO funny!
Oh and Bart, your kids look like they had a lot of fun making the movie with everyone. :-)
I completely understand the title now as well. It was all about trying to maintain 'trust'in relationships, even if Tom did stray. Least it made Rebecca realise you have to give and take to make a marriage work.
Whereas Tobey had to learn to grow up and deal with trying to make it work with Elaine. Love that scene at the dinner table when both Tom and Tobey were taking the mickey out of Elaine's new guy. Well let's face it - he was a dork! LOL!
We then went to see 'The Queen', a complete contrast of movie about how our royal family dealt with Lady Diana's death. Can I just say I recommend this movie guys, if you get chance to see it over there. :-)
Anyway, Thank you for a very enjoyable movie. I'm also so glad Icon allowed us to see it on the big screen in the UK. It will be another one I'll definately be recommending to folks! :-)
Owing to its superb effects against erectile dysfunction as well as its efficient treatment of Multiple Sclerosis, Priapism and Crohn`s Disease, you should go for viagra only once you are afflicted with male impotency.

Oh wow! GREAT poster, Bart!
As simple as it is, it's well-thought out and also very, very funny!
Deceptively well done -- at first glance, it looks like a child's drawing but obviously, it's not!
You should use it, too.
Since Fox has dropped the ball on PR, who says you can't use it yourself?
