baby lions
man that was a deep sleep. it was a long day's journey from boston to lax to home to leno and then home. the talk shows. always have that unsettled feeling over how hard to sell the picture, funny thing is, the better you think the movie is, the less you feel the need to push it, as if the goods will speak for themselves, and then you get home and wonder, did i push hard enough? then you get out there with catchphrases like romantic comedy with hard r moments (true) and woody allen this and that, and you feel like a salesman. but i ask you, how else can i get word out? how deeply i believe in bart and the rest of the cast and that this is a movie that meets its audience on so many levels. how can i tell you that without being a jackass of sorts? all i will say here for now is that this is the funniest movie i've ever made and, no, playing god does not count cause it wasn't supposed to be funny. and tea is not really pissed about the baby stuff. we just thought it might make a funny thing to talk about on the show. she's great. such an inspiring mother. the baby lion was something else. just the thought of what that cat like thing in my lap would grow to filled me with awe. show biz can be silly---joking while the world is in such distress, even going about one's daily business while the world is begging for the big answers--- but sometimes you just have to be thankful for a life where you get to hold a baby lion. dd

Wow, I watched five minutes ago and no new post and a couple of minutes later here it is. Good to see you had a good sleep and good to know Téa isn't really pissed off, geez I felt guilty, lol. She is a great mother, but you're a great father too, don't forget that. An example for lot of parents!!
I haven't seen Leno yet but I'm sure it will be on the net one of these days. Pushing a movie is always good I guess, but good is good and what more can you do? Still, pushing or not, it's always great to see you on tv so keep doing it. I'm an animal lover myself, I have several and I'm so jealous seeing you holding baby bears and baby lions. But I do know they're not toys either, so I deal with the fact you're the one holding them.
Are you still gonna answer the questions we asked in the other post?

We're getting Leno over in the UK on Wednesday so I'll check it out. Every actor has to push for their films to be heard among the others, it doesn't make you a jackass IMO. It just makes you proud of what you've done. The baby lion thing sounds awesome! Glad everything seems to be going alright on your end.

Hi David,
You were great on Leno! I always admire the composure you have when faced with the X Files question and I love all the funny stories you have to tell. You seem to be very comfortable with all animals (like the bears last time on Leno) and I really like that about you. Good luck with the movie and I hope it does well!
Posted by: yasmine | August 12, 2006 08:44 AM
D-man, what you need is a really large megaphone and a fat amp, and scream those lil lungs out to anyone who'll listen!! (or maybe to people who don't want to listen too, just to be annoying! Hardy har!)
Ok, really, *screws serious head on* I think the best way is to rely on us fans to get friends/family etc to go see the movie. I know i'll be doing it when it gets its UK release. Me thinks thats the best method. Public power speaks volume. And I gotta loud voice baby!

david---
i think i know exactly what you must have felt like when you were holding that little baby lion --- because i am just doing a practical time at the zoo in frankfurt - and they have a little baby tiger. and as it had to be weighed i could carry and hold it - that was an awsome moment - guess i will never foget that - probably so will you...! :)

Hey David one more question!
Will you be doing the Nautica Triathlon this year or will you be too busy filming your next project?
Thanks!

David,
I love reading your posts here. You seem like one of the few (?) in Hollywood who has his/her head on straight. Your wife is another one of those. Tell her she does NOT look pregnant, she looks fantastic and healthy for her age--or any age.
"Trust the Man" looks hilarious. I think I'm a fan of just about everyone in it!
Re: Leno, I bet your kids get jealous that you get to play with fuzzy baby animals as part of your job.
Take care!

Everytime when I read a new post from you, I feel like a child opening up birthday presents! You are such a great person, for so many reasons.
I'm glad Téa isn't pissed off.
Well, I saw the clip from Leno is online so I can finally watch it too.
Btw, baby lions? aah, sounds like you had a great time on Leno. Although, I'm a little jealous...baby lions. Too cute!
Have a nice weekend and take care,
Nicole

David, just one thing, you don't need to push the movie, we are alll dying to go see it, and you were awesome on Leno. Love, V.

I REALLY can't stand waiting for this movie another SECOND! I fear I shall go mad! There, I got that out of my system.
Now, David, I don't know about you, but I could have kissed Jeff Corwin full on the lips. First, well, he's JEFF CORWIN... second, for handing over the lion cub to you. I've had that experience (not the Jeff Corwin one, the lion cub one), and it's hard to give them back, isn't it? I hope your kids get a chance to do that sometime, if they haven't already.
Happy Belated Birthday Wishes To You, David! I'm sure all will go well with the next project. I understand it starts filming on the 14th. Please pass along birthday wishes to Hallie. The 14th is her day!

Hi David
Glad to hear from you. I watched Leno this morning on the tivo and it looks like you had a fairly good time. I say enjoy the fun part of celebrity. Holding the baby lion is a great side effect of showbiz. Glad to hear that Tea wasn't really pissed, as a woman there is nothing worse than being asked when you are due and you're not even expecting. From the pictures of the premiere it looked like you were just having a great time. Loved your story about Miller and the Empire State Building.
As for the movie I am looking forward to gettting to see it. Watched the HBO First Look the other night and liked how they tried to explain what the movie is about. It doesn't look like you cookie cutter type romantic comedy. I loved the clip where Bart told about the stick and relationships and how he used that in the movie. That is a very true comment on relationships. It is not easy all the time.
Hope you get a little down time before leave to start your movie. Enjoy the family and like you said be thankful for a great life.

Just saw you on Leno. You looked great.
The lion on your lap is sooo cute!

Watched TTM - First Look on HBO and I'm really looking forward to seeing this relationship comedy from a bloke's point of view. It's refreshing to sometimes break the usual format, isn't it.
Lucky you - getting so close to these wild and powerful cats. What a privilege. And - as regards the oppessive 'real-life' issues going on around us, you're right, but it's also a relief (and healthy) to enjoy the lighter side of life too.

Glad you are home safe and sound David. I was concerned after all the drama on the airways this week. Its always a worry. I was wondering how you would feel haveing to fly home with your family in such strange times this week. (I live in the UK and have felt really upset by all thats going on with terrorist threat etc and i felt for you. I read somewhere how much 9/11 scared you. ) Please don't let it put you off of coming to promote TTm. We need you to come and push it here too.
very funny comment about Playing god. , I enjoyed that too. It was the first thing outside the X files that I saw you make. You had a good role in that.
And I love your Jeff Goldblum impersonation on SNL very funny.
Baby lions. You are a lucky guy. Those are awsome creatures. I ahve lots of cats and they are just the right size but like you I love all animals. I would love a small holding where I can have all the sad abandoned animals and give them a loving home. I'd love to visit Lions in their native lands also. A fantastic experience to go on safari. They are very cute when they are little. You think these talk shows get the animals on when you are there beuase they know you love them. You look great with animals on your lap.
Umm the pregnancy thing. WEll we would rejoice if it is true because you are both fantastic parents and seem to take it very seriously and do a great job. Its nice to find a family that is so switched on and connected as you all seem to be. You are surely nurturing and guiding two great human beings for the future. Maybe it was just wishful thinking on our part as so many of us thought so. Noo we don;t think she looks fat, you can pass that along, I think its more that she and you are both glwoing with health an happiness. Its a delight to see you enjoy your birthday so much and the woman you love. You onviiously adore each other. What lucky children you have.
I'm sure Tea laughed really.
Many blessings and happiness. I look forward to this movie more and more.
Kobi.

"...joking while the world is in such distress, even going about one's daily business while the world is begging for the big answers--- but sometimes you just have to be thankful for a life where you get to hold a baby lion. dd"
You know, I think that's an important part of living in this day and age -- having the courage to live life when there is terror all around. Stopping the things we need to do or love to do is one way of losing our lives. I was nervous flying back to the US a few weeks ago from Munich via London, and the whole plot thing had not yet been exposed. But I am glad I went. Of course, I wouldn't have minded having a "greeter" to ease me through the lines and chaos of Heathrow...not to mention a seat with a little legroom for a long flight...I am glad you are safe.
Are you going to address any of our questions about TTM that were posted in the prior comments? I can't even imagine how hectic your life is gonna be when you start filming next week.
You know we all wish you well...hope your family has a chance to come up and visit you...

A good day to you, David.
I hope you have an open mind about criticism... no hard feelings, OK? I don't think you pushed the movie enough, really. First of, I think the clip is crutial. It has to summarize the story, but also the general ambiance of the movie and I don't think it did that. (I have seen Trust the Man, by the way.) Most of the movie happens outdoors in beautiful NYC, yet the clip showed a plain, white, indoor scene. I think the best clip would have been either the scene with Tom and Tobey hanging out outside with the soup cups discussing women and your relationships, or the scene where Tom is grocerie shopping with his daughter in the baby carrier and talking about women and your relationships with Tobey on the phone.
I noticed how hard pushing a movie is. Most of us fans push it as well, and I said exactly what you said last night, about it being a funny, and sweet sex comedy, but somehow that's not enough... Now I add: It's very well written, the dialogue is really smart. It discusses the issues between men and women. The whole feel of the movie is so cheerful (despite all the not-so-happy things that happen), and bright, and you also discover the caracters' New-York. Beautiful. and to top it all, it's HILARIOUS!
Well there you have it. That's how I push Trust the Man, I hope it helps. Oh, and the story about Chal: that's a winner. Everybody likes a behind-the-scenes anecdote. Will that be on the DVD? *grin*

I got to hold a tiny lion cub once and they are so soft and so sweet. I had to put my little 17 year old dog to sleep last week so I am very much in tune with animals right now. Can you tell us how wide a release TTM is going to have? I think I read somewhere about 500 theaters. Is that right? I can hardly wait to see it and I know it's going to be great.
Posted by: tamilu | August 12, 2006 10:31 AM
I feel your frustration. I guess you just have to hope that the people who see it catch on and carry the message forward.
However, you did a fantastic job of selling yourself. I won't presume to assess you as a person, but what came across was intelligence, humor, humanity, and humility.
By the way, I think there are two kinds of kids: Those who think it's the Vampire State Building, and those who think it's the Umpire State Building.
Best of luck in all your endeavors,
Kel

I'm glad things went well for you last night. Yes, you must have been tired.
There are doubts in everything new we do, and I guess you know how to put them into the 'Do Not Open" file in your head. Just remember the preliminary reviews are wonderful most of the places I've been reading about!
A strong family, great health and fun career! You're the luckiest man alive.
Just, never let baby lions show your their 'etchings'.
Well, Saturday is chore day, so you just take it easy and play!
See ya in the theaters,

That lion really was sooo adorable. It made me all like awwwwww.
And, hey, the trailers make the movie look awesome anyway. I don't think it's gonna take too much really to get people to see it. I'm just upset I have to wait for September to come around before I can see it.

Holding any new life is extraordinary; human or otherwise. I got to hold a four week old baby chimp once and that was pretty cool.
Anyway, you seemed a little tired on Leno last night which is quite understandable for what it took for you to get to LAX! CRAZY!
You have to laugh about the pregnancy rumors really. It could be worse! Tabloids would have a field day if you let them!
Anyhoodles...
Am counting the days til the movie comes to my area!
You and Julianne seem to have great chemistry. Glad you gys had fun making the movie!

It's still writen in sharpie on my arm: DD, Leno, 11:30. Haha as if I was going to forget.
Anyway, you were great. And that baby lion was incredible. How many people get to hold a lion??
I'm dying to see the movie. Can't wait to see you get punched in the balls ^_^
That's meant in a nice way, of course.
Take it easy.

David, I'm glad to see that you and your family made it home safe and sound. I really did think about you flying with all the trouble going on. I really enjoyed you last night on Leno. It seems that animals are drawn to you. They have a sixth sense I think, and can pick up the vibes of people that they know are kind. I just found out that they are having a free showing of TTM here in Philly at the Ritz 5. I think it's the same place you did the Q & A for House of D. I plan on going. Of course I still plan to be part of the paying audience when it opens in New York on the 18th:) Are you going to be doing anymore promotion for TTM? I hope we get the chance to see you on a few more talk shows. Well, take care, and I hope you have a wonderful time going back to Vancouver.
Hugs again from Philly

I just saw the videoclips of the Leno show and I loved it! It's great to see you with those animals too, although Jeff Corwin (that's his name?) is a bit too hyperactive to me, lol. I loved it how the little lion got so relaxed with you, really cute. Anyway, great interview and please come to Europe!!!!

Dear David,
You are my hero.
I was in the Leno audience yesterday afternoon and I thought you were charming (as usual). And as fun as it was to see you in person, I have to say that I love when you write a blog and put things into perspective. Talk shows are fun, but this seems more real.
Anyway, I'm trying to convey something that I can't quite put into words, so I'll just end the way I started.
You are my hero.

hey david! glad to see you on Leno, my friend and I actually went to the taping, so even though you did not know, you had some 'friends of the blog' in attendance!
that story about Miller was the cutest thing. and those lions, well, they are truly the best! i've had the opportunity to feed one a bottle, and it is definitely awe inspiring!
Don't worry, you didn't 'oversell' the film. it was just right. sometimes the movie speaks for itself, if only everyone would listen!
Posted by: ericka | August 12, 2006 12:30 PM
I agree - things that are good do sell themselves - and I've never seen Playing God so I can't comment - but the trailers have made me giggle, which is saying something because I'm a hard sell on comedy. And yes, sometimes being thankful for the little things in life is what it's about - I always tell me students that no amount of good is ever wasted - so instead of being drowned by adversity and the nonsense out there - to concentrate on what each one of us can do in our own sphere of influence - I'm still hoping for a Pacific Northwest showing of TTM - Canada would be a plus - maybe you could sneak a copy to me?

David,
You did good on the show, just the right amount of push for the movie, which I can't wait to see. You are always great when it comes to promoting the work you do.
I am glad that Téa is not pissed, although I wouldn't have blamed her. I thought that both of you looked fabulous at the premiere.
You do have a way with animals, put that cub right into a relaxed state. Do you ask them to make sure that animals are on the show when you are ;)
I love the stories you tell on these shows. Poor Miller, thinking he was being forced to go to the Vampire State Building :)
That was lots of rushing about, I don't blame you for taking the VIP route this time. Do not feel guilty, especially if you do not normally take advantage of those types of situations. Once in a while it is ok.

It was great that you stayed, enjoyed every second of it. Your charm, wit and warmth are something that that sets you apart from most celebs and leaves a mark on people's hearts I'd venture to guess.
Thank you for everything that you do and putting a smile on my face despite the dire happenings in the world. Can't wait to catch you on The View, and anything else I catch word of.
Posted by: UnderMySkinner | August 12, 2006 01:53 PM
David,
Joking is vital, particularly while the world is in such distress. Zoolander was the first comedy released after 9-11 and that bit of silliness allowed me to forget for a while, laugh and begin to heal.
Who in the world thought Playing God was a comedy? You gave a strong, gritty performance in a film that seemed to lose its way. I blame the script.
I loved your story about Miller and the Vampire State Building. For the longest time, I thought it was the Umpire State Building, until my parents brought me to NYC and took me up to the observation deck. I was 6 and read the words Empire State Building and had to ask what that meant. How did it feel to be a tourist in your hometown?
That lion cub looked right at home in your arms. I believe animals ~ and young children ~ can tell when they're in the company of kind and loving people. You looked like you were enjoying it, too.
Trust the Man looks like a smart, witty film. You sold it well and surprising the audience with Garry's appearance as your therapist seemed to resonate with the audience.
I hope TV appearances by other cast members, promotions by the studio and word of mouth from test screenings continues to build positive buzz about the film.
Have a great time in Vancouver and I hope you can grab a moment here and there to continue posting to this blog.
It's always a treat to hear from you.
Lynn

I will never say Empire State building again. It's gonna be Vampire State Building from now on. Too cute. Kids are so funny at that age. My great nephew is two days younger than Miller. I so know what you're going through David, lolol.
Posted by: Linda61 | August 12, 2006 02:01 PM
Hey DD,
You're right, selling art is always a touchy thing isn't it? Talk shows are so difficult because the hosts are rarely listening, not that it's really their fault. I'll just say that some of them are better then others. :)
If I were you I would insist that animals were on every talk show appearance! You looked quite tired but you *so* perked up when those lions came out. What a fantastic perk of celebrity. You should enjoy it for all of us who won't ever get to.
You know one of my most vivid memories after 9/11 was the first Seattle Mariner game when the season restarted. When they took the field I started crying. There's alway a place for that stuff.
Good luck with the opening and I'll be at my local cinema with a friend or two.

Hi David
I guess it is difficult to try and sell a movie, through various TV journalists etc. Everyone is different and has varied tastes. So no matter what you do, it isn't going to appeal to everybody. But I'm sure you 'sold' it to the best of your ability. :-)
Incidentally I watched the HBO 'special' which has got me even more interested in TTM. I'm impressed with the way Bart is combining the phsycology of men and women with comedic entertainment. If it doesn't make it to the UK (and I hope it does I'll most likely be buying the DVD.
I've just downloaded and watched the interview you did with Jay Leno. Loved the quips Jay was making about you getting preferential treatment travelling back on the plane, so a lot of folk were now no longer your friends! LOL! Seriously though, we are on alert in the UK due to news about terrorists wanting to target planes from UK to USA and vice versa.
Glad to hear you were wearing a cup so didn't really get sore balls in TTM! That son of Bart and Julianne sounds like a right little team player! ;-)
Oh and I'm even more jealous of you now! Not only do you get to fly to Vancouver, but you get to have a baby lion cub on your lap as well! It looked so contented, purring away there, aw! :-)
Have a safe journey to Canada and best of luck with the next movie making escapade.
Keep in touch with the 'fob's when you can.

I really enjoyed your appearance on Leno and I think you hit a nice tone with the "promotion" bit.
I'm also a big fan of Jeff Corwin, and I knew you'd enjoy whatever animals he brought out. I loved that you were so eager to grab that baby lion--I know I wouldn't have been able to keep my hands off it if I'd been in your place.
I love people who love animals. ;0)
It was great to see you--have fun in Vancouver with Things We Lost in the Fire. It looks like an interesting story.
I hope you still find time to pop in and let us know how it's all going.
Good luck and thanks for reaching out to us all,

David,
One of the reasons we turn to show business is to escape the problems of the world. We need to be able to have fun even in the midst of distress. It allows us to better be able to handle that which is wrong with the world

David,
You always give us amarvelous "sell" on your movies, and the interview was terrific, so stop worrying so much!
Glad to hear Tea isn't truly upset, although I wouldn't blame her if she were, and she did indeed look beautiful (as always.)
I have to say tough, the best part of the interview was the "Vampire" State Building and the "wolf and fox" comments.
Still keeping fingers crossed for great numbers. Only a week to go! Happy traveling Sunday, be safe and keep in touch.

Well, when I look out my window in the future I'll always see the "Vampire State Building"! That's a great story...thanks for telling it. Miller seems to be a great source for talk show stories. Sounds like he's a little character :)
Since I was at the red carpet I just want to say that if Tea's tummy was any flater it would be concave! The woman is in magnificent condition which only shows that photos shouldn't be believed.
Hope you filming experience in Vancouver is fun and rewarding. I'll be right here in NYC getting all my friends out to see TtM...
Best wishes from Stuy Town

I'm looking forward to seeing the Leno clip. I love seeing you interact with animals (bears one time before on Leno, and with Blue on Ellen). Your obvious love for animals shows through strongly. I have also had the privilege of playing with baby lions (6 months old) and they are truly magnificent animals.
I always love the stories that you and Tea tell about your kids. It sounds like they are just great. I'm only a year older than you and I'm looking forward to the arrival of my first grandchild (a boy) in just a few weeks time so I'll get to have all those great kid moments all over again. Children are such a joy but a lot of hard work, but it is great to see that your kids are so perfectly "normal" and not affected by the fact that their mom and dad are household names.
Good luck with making "Things We Lost in the Fire", and I hope you will still find time to make an occasional blog entry.

That was the best hour of TV I have watched in a long time. I was thinking of counting the ways I would love to be a lioncub but now there are far too many :D I remember thinking I hoped Tea was pregnant since people seemed to think she was. I would be pissed so its really nice that she was able to joke about it. I didnt look for how well you sold the movie because well Im sold on seeing it. I think if more people knew about this blog it might sell it for them as well. You were delightful to watch and I have already bought tickets to Trust the Man on the 18th
Still looking out for Juliannes blog entry!

Lindsay, the list is started and we're on #30.
Duke, I'm a huge fan of both you AND Jeff Corwin, so Leno was AWESOME for me. You did seem tired. Sorry you have to work so hard bud! We'll all go see the movie for you, so it'll be worth the effort. My husband is sold on it now, after the "punch David in the balls" story. Men, huh?
So, how many more times can you be told that we're all jealous that you got to hold the lion cub? How about one more? I'm completely jealous. So... how can I get your job?
Posted by: Lizzie | August 12, 2006 09:02 PM
David, that last sentence of your blog just says volumes about you. But we all need diversion when things are seeming hopeless. In a way, it helps clear out the clutter and allows us to find our own hope--be it in big ways like the rebuke of a horrible politician like we managed here in Connecticut this week (YAY for Ned Lamont!), or in the little ways like the purr of a baby lion in your lap. It all matters, it's all profound, and clearly you "get it."
Keep on keeping on. Please.

david,
you shouldn't worry about your marketing of the movie on leno. it was perfect. plus, you hit all the major advertising bases:
1. sex (clip of you and julianne)
2. babies (story about miller)
3. animals (baby lions)
(warning: all 3 of these things should probably never appear in advertising simultaneously.)
and on a more serious note, no matter what is happening in the world, if we don't stop to laugh it's all over anyway.
thanks for that.
xo

p.s. if you want more marketing help, i have my MS in advertising, i seriously need a job and i'm obviously not above doing shameless plugs. :) have your people call my people.

Hi David,
Such a sweet man you are, it is clear that even the animals know what a gentle soul you have. Great seeing you on Leno, I hope the movie does well. I love your work and wish you continued success. The compassionate Gandhi had it right: " The greatness of a nation and its moral progress, can be judged by the way it's animals are treated" Take care, be safe and hello to your beautiful wife, she is a very lucky lady :-) Sheelagh

Hello David,
It was so cute seeing you with the baby lions...you were so sweet with them..
I have to say that I LOVE when you talk about your family...& specially when you talk about the little things that happens between your children & you...so sweet~~~~^^
Take care

In my opinion (for the little that is worth), the key to selling any product is to believe in that product. It came through that you believe in this movie.
Okay, I try really hard not to compare one character to another character (and never to the person playing the character) BUT I watched the HBO feature on this movie and there was a clip of you and a video tape - and if I recall Mulder was reported to have a, well, um, ah, an 'intersting' collection of videos. . .
Sorry, just couldn't resist.
Good luck on this movie and future projects.

I think we all need to be thankful for moments like holding a baby lion or glimpsing a deer in your backyard or the fleeting of a humingbird at your feeder...makes us realize we're not alone on this world, that other things are at risk on this messed up planet just as we are...thank you for reminding us.
Posted by: Randi | August 13, 2006 08:42 AM
Hey David---don't feel like a jackass----you're not at all----the movie is like a product to sell---and someone who want's to sell something let people know about it----and you have to tell everyone about the movie---it's so normal.
and for the baby lions----haven't seen it jet---got to wait until wednesday---for CNBC Europe---I'm looking forward to. Must've been a curious feeling----as you said, you had a baby lion in your lap---they are sweet when baby, but grown up......
Back to the movie----I'm really looking forward to----hear more and more about it----and I'm sure I gonna like it---funny and much r moments---just my kind--smile.
So, I hope you gonna post very soon some words for us...
meanwhile----take care of you.
greets from Bern

Hey David-
Leno was great, and of course you were as entertaining as possible. I can def see how pluggin movies has to be weird, cuz you don't want to push it down people's throats but you want them to go see it.
So being on Leno has gotten you the experiences of holding baby bears and lions..any other animals you would like to hold?

Hi David,
First let me say, that all your loyal fans will always see everything you do. You just have to convince all the other slobs - I mean moviegoers - to see your movies. You usually do a wonderful job of doing that. I can't wait to see this one and I hope that most people will feel the same way.
Take care,
Renée

Dear David,
seems like you are also wonderin'about the course of this world.. So do I.
This thing with the baby lion was certainly very cute (didn't know about it, still Germany, remember?). I've got my own lions at home: 2 Norwegian cats. They are taller than an average cat. We love them.
Suffering from Jetlag? I hope you don't.
My work is waiting for me.
Take care of you and enjoy the week.

Hi David,
I finally watched you on Leno, that was very cool ! I think that the TTM excerpt is very good and sells well the movie. I hope Miller enjoyed Empire State Building all the same :) ! can't wait to read you again.

Dear David,
I am sorry for the shortcut in the morning but there were too many things to be done... I am preparing the data of my PhD for my first congress in Berlin in September. So all's gotta be checked and verified.
You schouldn't be so worried about having the film pushed hard enough. Your reputation still reaches all around the world and they still love you. I am sure you are still a great actor but that you have learned a lot of things within the last years. Not only about family and friends.
Time has certainly changed you. One can see it in the lines of your face. This is not meant in a negative way, don't worry. It is told you by someone who's grown herself very much in several ways. Finally I have found a stable level now.
No, all I want to say is, that I am still grateful. Have a nice day.

Advertising the movie
seems to be going great.
You punched in the balls
Gotta see it, can't wait
At least the cuddly lion
lounging in your lap
didn't extend it's claws
Cause if it had
you might have been hurt
real bad
That punch
nothing compared to shredded gonads.
You and your wife should check out the 200 list at
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106179/board/flat/50887050
You still have alot of fans there.

i think you've pushed hard enough David!!! i can't express very well myself in english, except for this: i've never heard an actor talk like you do... if i may say, you are sexy and intelligent at the same time... it's hard to find somebody like you!!!! i saw the TTM trailer, it looks very funny and smart! i want to see it!!! i'm keeping supporting you!!

I just saw in the LA Times yesterday that TTM will be showing in Costa Mesa (Orange County) in the limited release run. I am disappointed that there has been so little publicity about this film and wonder how they expect to get much of an audience if no one knows anything about the film or where it is playing. I'll be there opening weekend and hope more publicity will happen soon. I know I'm going to love your film and wish you great success with it!

-*Hey! David! Is it okay if I call you that or should I call you something else like Davey or more like, yeah right like he'll ever have the time to read this! Well if you do happen to read this, I would just like to say I am a really big fan! I am inspired as a young wanna-be-actress! Although, living with divorced-remarried parents, whom in which are in a big fight for my 1 year younger sister, in two really small towns(ya know the kind of towns where you don't have to worry about public, `cause there is none), not even close to NY or LA, stuck in Illinois, happening to only be 13! But otherwise yeah, I'm very inspired! If I am alowd to I will be more than greatfull to watch Trust the man, witch I might be able to, because I always skip the "bad parts"!

P.S.- Hope you read this! Oh and if I got a little to personal for you, I'm really sorry! Oh and I bet your think'n, I have 13 year old groupies, alright, i mean you must be 18 or older to join, plus 189 a month!:)

No you don't sound like a jackass and you have every reason to promote your work. If you believe in the project then sell the sh8t out of it. As long as you are sincere and really proud of it then there is no reason to hold back your passion for the project. Sometimes it kind of sucks how the best stuff comes and goes without anyone ever knowing about it. I will be catching the movie next weekend. Looking forward to it. Thanks for blogging. -L

Hello, and please allow me to say, 'happy birthday'.
A man of your background is rare, but couple that with your educational background, makes you stand out even more.
You are basically worried about how to get your feelings out, about how to express your love for this film and for your friends, but I say you're doing more than you know by doing this blog. You used to hate computers, and not even check your own fan sites. Looks like you've made the right decision by personally using (investing?) the power of the internet. Thank you for that, or otherwise I wouldn't be able to see what you're up to from here in Saitama, Japan. Please keep making blogs wherever or whenever you can. Unlike my time in U.S. (1990-1998), I have been hampered by the fact that your recent films, aside from Return to Me, haven't made it here, and a lot of them aren't even released in DVD. So, as much as I would like to agree with you (because I know your talent as actor, director, and writer, and maybe even as a teacher) on the 'goods will speak for itself' remark, unless it's something I can get a hold on, everything just remains a speculation. I'm not saying you have to come personally to Japan and make a big publicity effort here, but you can make sure that your films are reachable to foreign market. It's not like 20 years ago, when you had to seriously look for English-speaking people in Asia. Tons of us do like American and European culture. And a majority of us has access to the Internet.
Keep doing what you are doing. I can see that your fans need not worry about you anymore, because you obviously are in good hands, and that your family life is going incredible. Keep yourself healthy and happy, and keep your family healthy and happy. Be sure that you get good sleep. It is precisely why our world is in a chaos, that we need people like you to remain centered.

Hi David:
I live in Karachi, Pakistan. A previously little known country that is quite infamous now. Well, sad to say I will not be watching Trust the Man as it will not be released here. I still have not seen House of D either. I feel very deprived. I have been a fan of yours from the 90's when X-files began. I lived in the US then. Moved back in 1997. Barbara O'Neill, of the SPCCD, was kind enough to tape season 6 for me and send it all the way to Karachi. Since then all the seasons have been aired here on various channels of sattv She also sent me the movie of the Red Shoe Diaries. I got my husband to buy me the Brea Sharp cd with the David Duchovny why don't you love me song on it.
You are fascinating.
My husband looks a lot like you and this is not just my opinion but that of many. Once, when my youngest daughter was three, and I was looking at some pictures of you on the internet, she pointed excitedly to the screen saying it was her dad. She keeps putting pictures of you on my laptop desktop. In deference to my husband I refrain from doing stuff like that, myself.
I was hoping you would publish some of your poetry. Have you?
Do you still have Blue? She and you are on my desktop just now.
Well, hope you will read this.

I'm pretty sure you could sell anything to anyone, even dog food...wait you did that already. :-) Good luck with this film, I'll be one of the many standing in line for it. Have fun with your next film, I'm sure working with Halle Berry will be a blast.

Speaking of baby lions a male snow leopard which was found by a shepherd in the northern areas of Pakistan has been sent to the Bronx zoo to be part a captive breeding program.
This is because Pakistani zoos lack that kind of technical expertise. There was a letter in a Karachi newspaper regarding this matter. A young man wrote that given the deteriorating living conditions in our city including the rain which is playing havoc with our lives, daily traffic jams and massive power breakdowns, one can only envy the snow leopard who will be enjoying state of the art facilities at the Bronx Zoo. True enough, and really with the world in such distress today one is thankful that humanity still exists in some little act like this one. We can still care about endangered snow leopards.

"playing god does not count cause it wasn't supposed to be funny"
I had to re-read that a couple of times, just to make sure that's what was there. Ah well, camp has value too.
I don't know how keen I would be to hold a lion cub, because you can smell them from several paces away and they STINK.
Hopefully, this will be playing here in Delaware when it goes wide.

Hmm. I'm more than a little late in even realizing this blog existed. Thats one of the downfalls of not having computer acess though! I just wanted to say, at the risk of sounding lame and cliche- I've been a huge fan since age 9. I cant wait to see this movie. It looks great. (and Tea looks anything but pregnant!)

Dear Mr. Duchovny:
It’s 2006, and I just found out about House of D, Full Frontal, etc! Even though Robin Williams is my favorite actor. I’ll see Trust the Man ASAP and previous work on DVD.
I’m writing to say I deeply appreciate your work and am so grateful for the enjoyment you have given me throughout the years.
Recently re-watching X-Files reminded me of why I loved your work so much back then. Drama is difficult, but you displayed undercurrents, like many men actually do with their emotions. Comedy is even more difficult, but your deadpan delivery kills me, even now.
I’m what might be called a casual fan. I didn’t seek out your work like I should have. That said, I’m also not obsessed with you, think I know you, and don’t feel “close” to you somehow because I saw you on TV. Frankly, I have a perfectly good life of my own to live and have better things to do than read People magazine.
Mostly, I’m thrilled to find out about House of D, to see what you did as a writer and director in an independent film. Though I heard of mixed reviews, .f--- the critics is right. As the only intellectual in a creative family, I’d take creative any freakin’ day. Creation is 1,000 times more difficult than criticism. I’m just so glad you took the creative road, instead of the critic. Those that can’t create, critique.
Granted that the X-Files crossover is way late in my case, I deeply respect your decision to choose quality projects over schlock. By choosing independent and atypical films, it says more than you could say in a lifetime of interviews. I guess I’m writing this here and now to say that some of us get it and look forward to the work, even if I didn’t support you by going to see House of D in the theatres.
I look forward to your work in the future.
Sincerely,
A fan, not a fanatic

Being such a great artist, it's got to be a little strange to sell the movie as well. How hard does a painter sell his/her paintings? A writer sell his/her books? I suppose it's one part of an artist's work that's unpleasant, yet almost necessary. For what it's worth, you are in good company.
Many blessings to you and your family...

I just wanted to say that I loved Trust The Man and that all the people who have 'poo-pooed' (excuse my 'colourful language') the ending just didn't get it. I thought that the ending was making fun of the usual hollywood endings, or at least having fun with it!!! I had to travel quite a way to see it because in Australia it was only shown in selected cinemas it being a 'small' film! Argh! Still well worth the effort. I enjoyed the movie immensly and look forward to further Duchovny involved films!

David-
I have been a huge fan of yours since I was about 7 or 8 years old. I'm 23 now. I have always loved you. My homepage is set to Duchovny.net. You're on my desktop, I have a million pictures of you. I have a lot of your magazines too. I just want to thank you for all your work. I appreciate all the years of entertainment--very entertained!!
I look forward to seeing your new movies the first day they open. I am working on my DD dvd collection-it's almost complete with all your movies. Just missing some of the older ones, and a couple of the newer ones. Thank you so much...I wish more than anything that I could talk to you in person, or at least a personal response to this...wishful thinking huh?
All my love--
